Information about Judi
Im a holistic teacher I want to inspire a love of learning and of using language in learning. My aim is that the tutee will know that the sessions have helped them learn and improve, whatever our focus is! They should soon see an increase in confidence and progress. Lessons will include fun but I will expect work and good concentration.
I currently work for Leicestershire as a One to One English Tutor (GCSE).This means I am up to date on current research and curriculum demands, coursework and exam specifications. Previously I was employed for 16 years in mainstream 11-16 school, delivering English to GCSE prior to that my experience was in the primary sector as well as working in charities as a publicist!
Additionally in term-time I work as a Dyslexia Study Skills Tutor for undergraduate and postgraduate University students.
How I work
I meet for the first lesson for a discussion with learner and parent and view National Curriculum levels in English Reading, Writing and Mathematics and latest school reports. We need to discuss what is required.
After two paid tutoring sessions I provide a report on progress in the areas agreed and identified, giving detailed feedback and for us to have further discussion. You will want to know what my assessment of your childs particular areas of weakness may be and how I best judge to work to further their progress in literacy. It is vital that we both know what we are to expect from each other.
Within these meetings we will agree on what sort of homework tasks are appropriate. Progress will be regularly monitored and parents kept informed.
Availability: limited daytime in term-time / mainly late afternoon / evenings
half term double lessons for a specific focus
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: More than years of special needs teaching means I have a lively approach to literacy and learning, individualised to each learner, using a variety of teaching methods, formal and informal, active and visual. With specialist teaching qualifications in dyslexia and language acquisition I have a lot of experience working with learners who have difficulties such as dyspraxia, autism and also visual or hearing impairments. My aim is that the tutee will know that the sessions have helped them learn and improve! They should soon see an increase in confidence and progress.
I have been tutoring throughout my teaching career (English from early beginnings to GCSE).
