Information about Julia

Maths Tutoring for 11-18 year olds. I am an experienced secondary maths teacher at a leading South West London Academy, with a first class (honours) mathematics degree and a Masters in Maths Education at the University of Cambridge.

I love teaching and helping students to realise their full potential in order to achieve the grades they are capable of getting, whatever level the student is working at. I always strive to ensure that my tutees receive tutoring that is catered to their specific needs and learning styles. I understand that students process and learn material in different ways, and I enjoy looking for new methods to explain different maths topics. My masters course means that I have researched different teaching methods and resources; I also have a good understanding of how memory works and how best to use this for teaching and revision.

I can tutor to help students reach their full potential through support or extension, to improve confidence in maths or even renew a love of maths.

Availability: I have after school/evening availability on a Monday and Tuesday. I only take on a small number of students each academic year so as to provide high quality tutoring to each student.

I can travel to Richmond, St Margaret`s, Kew, and Sheen. Please note I do not tutor outside of these areas due to travel time involved, although I can offer online tutoring.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: BSc (Hons) Mathematics, First Class, University of Keele

MEd Mathematics Education, University of Cambridge (course completed, graduation pending due to COVID)

Currently teaching years 7 to 13. Significant experience with:
- GCSE (Higher and Foundation Tiers)
- A level (including Further Maths)
- IB (including Higher Level and the Calculus Option)

I have also previously tutored students looking to resit A levels, helping students improve from previous failing grades to a good passing grade. Additionally, I have successfully prepared students for Functional Skills exams.

At A level, I am particularly experienced at teaching Core and Further Pure modules.

Julia has been very helpful. She has provided great support in building confidence and enjoyment in studying maths, and in helping to prepare for GCSE. She is flexible in her approach, and is both able to offer ideas and suggestion for study, but also able to respond to specific needs when they arise. She has been helpful in suggesting sending topic/study ideas to her in advance of the sessions, to give her the opportunity to prepare most effectively. She has been very accommodating in changing days when events have arisen and also has given us advance notice if she has been delayed or has needed to move the occasional session. She is good at giving feedback at the end of the sessions, both to the pupil and also to parents, and also is able to make suggestions for possible self study during the week to help consolidate the topics looked at.

Julia was a tutor to my son over the summer holiday to help him with his A level maths. My son was pretty adamant that he didn`t want a tutor but Julia struck up a really good working relationship with him. She concentrated on the areas that he felt weakest on and my son found himself enjoying the lessons. Best of all, in his first big maths tests of the new term, he got an A. We would happily have Julia back again.
