Information about Julie
I am a qualified primary school teacher who offers tuition in all primary subjects and 11+. In addition, I hold a TEFL certificate and am keen to help non-English speakers develop their skills. For older students including adults, I also also offer basic maths and English to support functional skills.
I believe in lifelong learning and equal opportunities, and therefore I am keen to support students of all ages in developing both skills and confidence so that they may fulfil their potential.
I graduated with a First Class Honours degree with The Open University so am an example of how learning at home can be successfully achieved. I am supportive, reliable and have a good sense of humour.
I love tutoring and enjoy a good positive rapport with students of all ages and abilities as well as their families.
Availability: I am currently available Monday to Fridays (daytime and evenings) throughout the year (excluding Christmas) to ensure continuity and avoid back-sliding. I also offer booster sessions during school holidays except the Christmas break.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have 16 years experience working in primary schools, as a teacher, LSA and school governor. I have experience in both KS1 & 2 yet further support older school-aged students in mastering the skills taught in these key stages. In addition, to supporting school-age students I have also worked with many adult learner in improving their numeracy and literacy skills. As a former SATs marker (3 year`s experience), I acquired greater insight into the reading tests which enables me to better support students with their exam technique.
As well has holding a TEFL certificate, I have experience teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) to students of all ages, both face-to-face and online.
I enjoy tutoring on a one-to-one basis as it means I can address specific needs and personalise the learning for each of my students. In order to keep sessions varied and engaging, I use a selection of resources and strategies to support learning including games and practical activities.
Feedback For Julie (5)
From the first time i read Julie`s profile on Tutor Hunt, I knew I`d want her as a teacher.
By the third lesson, I could see an amazing difference in my son`s handwriting which is now legible and well-formed.
Her lessons are fun, practical, well-planned and engaging. His maths skills are improving daily and he is much more confident in speaking and writing.
She has my highest recommendations !
Julie is tutoring DS for his 11+ exam. DS is absolutely enjoying his lessons with her. We are very pleased with Julie`s work so far. My son has had three lessons with her, and already, I can see significant improvement in his handwriting.
We are now on session 3 and so far we are very pleased with Julie. Julie has connected with our daughter amazingly through her fun nature and ways of teaching. We highly recommend Julie.
It is early days, but already Julie has made great progress with my Son who genuinely looks forward to her coming. She makes learning `fun` and has a very positive attitude. I would highly recommend Julie.
So far, we have only had 4 sessions with Julie and she has already built up a good rapport with my 6 year old son as she has such a warm and engaging personality. Julie also incorporates lots of `hands on` activities, games, resources and sticker rewards which makes learning exciting for the child rather than a bore! There is always lots of fun, laughter and positive praise during their hour together. I am very happy having Julie tutor my son (I have had experience of bad tutors in the past) and my son feels very comfortable with her too!
