Information about Sean

Hi.
My name is Sean.
I would now describe myself as a talented educator. Warm. Adaptable. Professional. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic yet unconventional enough to learn.
I am a skilled Teacher of English - Literature and Language - Film & Media, Drama and (SEN/EBD/EAL) Literacy at all Key Stages with vast experience of accommodating different learning preferences, addressing identifiable gaps in study without judgement, dealing with assessment pressures and changing exam board procedures; not to mention the fear of failure that many parents and students face today. I also have an in-depth understanding of physical/emotional barriers or disabilities and other complex educational needs that can hinder progress.
I`m pragmatic and Strategic. I am thorough and methodical. A confidence builder. A motivator of young people with a proven record of raising attainment as well as managing challenging behaviour. I`m an empathiser! Caring but impartial.
I am able to diffuse crises also and very used to handling pressure. I equip students to overcome logistical problems, to meet deadlines and to exceed expectations, their own and others.
I am tenacious and tireless. I am passionate about education and the empowerment it can bring as opposed to merely satisfying the requirements of an education system. My aim is to encourage belief and aspiration in young people in order for them to achieve much more than they imagine and at the same time, to model good practice among peers.
I love communication. I love the English language. And I love especially its Literature, because it motivates and inspires and does not limit.
I have had the pleasure of seeing many of my students make immediate progress and attain grades that surprised even themselves; and all because of a little extra attention to details and an extra effort to engage.
I am presently developing a pioneering fast track Tutoring portfolio for ambitious students and parents that despite all obstacles, despite previous performance; and regardless of perceived weakness or potential cost, will open doors that bring great reward for some outside-the-box foccessed effort.
I currently operate only within the metropolitan London area but my long term vision is to offer dynamic English tuition online as well as in person, and to remain steps ahead of

Experience: Having taught English at Secondary level since 2003, I have delivered the English curriculum within both mainstream and `Special` education. I have applied methods which I, myself, would respond to and have significantly raised attainment in the process. Using the modern media selectively and embracing the very technology that young people are familiar with, my students progress with a renewed aspiration and belief. This has led me into teaching (WJEC) Film Studies up to A Level as well as Media Studies at GCSE - A subject in its own right, not just within English. I have also taught crucial elements of the IGCSE syllabus to EAL students that simply need to show proficiency in a second language. In doing so, I have instilled confidence and a love of learning. I created and adapted resources that proved to be not only suitable but revolutionary, changing the learning space overnight - from one of disruption and disaffection to engagement. I have challenged learning appropriately within the boundaries of acknowledged good practice and I have also fostered positive relationships with all my students. My feedback (marking etc) has always been detailed and professional and I have excellent communication with parents. I am an ambitious and idealistic Teacher who relishes the opportunity to succeed - especially where expectation and future achievement is in question.

Absolutely brilliant. Bought the best out in my son. Instilled confidence and a strong interest in the English language subject. His teaching methods were innovative and relate able for my son which enabled him to achieve an A in IGCSE.
