Information about Shumena

I love teaching my subject and want to help my pupils develop their intellectual curiosity and gain a better understanding of Mathematics. I have been a full time Maths teacher for 5 years and I have experience teaching GCSE (Higher and foundation), A level (Pure 1) and Further Maths A level (Further Statistics and Decision). I am familiar with the new specifications for both GCSE and A level and know that it is much more rigorous with a lot of new content. I have planned and taught lessons for the new specification. I have taken 2 year 11 classes through their GCSEs and 2 further maths A-level classes. They achieved results which added value to the schools progress. My GCSE classes made a very positive contribution towards the Maths departments progress with a positive Progress 8 score. Throughout the years I continuously monitored my students learning and progress to identify those who were not achieving their targets and developed strategies such as regularly checking up on those who had not performed well. I supported pupils by ensuring those who were at risk of falling behind were attending extra intervention sessions where I was able to give more of my attention and focus to them to help them achieve better results. I have attended parents evening to discuss matters and issues with students` parents to promote their well-being and ultimately their progress. My lesson observations reflect my confidence in every topic I have taught. I continue to develop my subject knowledge by looking at the new GCSEs and the shift towards problem-solving, interpretation and modelling. I try to incorporate what I learn from reading around the subject in my lessons so that they involve rich tasks that demand higher-level thinking from students. I have done an online CPD course run by AMSP to teach A-level statistics and have attended two study day’s at Warwick University to become familiar with the new A-level specification.

Experience: I have 5 years experience as a full time secondary school maths teacher. I have taught at all key stages. I have taught GCSE (Higher and foundation), A level (Pure 1) and Further Maths A level (Further Statistics and Decision). I am familiar with the new specifications for both GCSE and A level. At my last place of work I worked as the Key Stage 3 co-ordinator, where I helped organise and plan structured lessons as well as creating tests and resources for year 7, 8 and 9 pupils. I believe my experience will allow me to help pupils on this platform to reach their full potential.
