I have MA, PGCE, PGDip, BA qualifications.

I am an excellent teacher with many years of professional experience enabling children to achieve at the highest possible level. I was an art teacher for thirty years and Head of Art for twenty five. For half of my career I taught in sixth form colleges and the other half in independent, boarding and day schools. In my most recent post I was also the Head of Gifted and Talented.

Throughout I have prepared many students for higher education in the creative arts; assisting them in preparing portfolios and writing personal statements that have enabled them entry into the most selective of institutions, including Architecture at Cambridge and The Bartlett.

My career has allowed me to develop a personalised approach to teaching, developing the individual`s unique artistic identity through a coaching and mentoring style.

For many years I was an examiner/moderator with the OCR, Cambridge and Edexcel boards. I am therefore very familiar with the system. In all of my career only a handful of my students achieved less than an A or A*. My approach to achieving at this level is to develop the artist and push the work to its highest standard, high grades then follow.

I can teach the spectrum of specialist options including painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and photography. I have particular interests in ceramics and drawing. My skill is in developing and balancing technical excellence with creativity. I can teach `traditional`, academic fine drawing from direct observation but I am also able to spot and develop the individual`s unique voice. Additionally I can assist with the writing of the essay components. Having successfully completed an MA I have excellent writing skills.

Availability: I am available online during the day, in the evenings and at weekends. During the pandemic I regret I am unavailable for face to face tutoring.
