Information about Catherine

I recently graduated with a high 2:1 degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford, and this September am starting an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of Exeter. I thoroughly enjoyed my education at all stages and would love to be able to give back and help others to be able to achieve, and study their subjects at whatever university they wish.

In my lessons I focus on developing a students ability not only in producing high quality exam answers, but also to be able to talk confidently and discuss the ideas behind the content so that they develop a deep and clear understanding of the subject. I understand some students may find online learning harder at the moment, and have adapted my teaching techniques with this in mind.

My Biology degree has allowed me to develop not only high quality analytical and mathematical skills but also polished writing skills and science communication. These skills provide me with a strong cross curricular basis, and I believe the ability to communicate science is in particular an essential quality of a tutor/teacher.

Experience: I have 500+ hours of tutoring experience over the last 2 years and currently tutor multiple students in KS3 and GCSE science and maths, and one at A-level Biology. In the past 6 months I have also tutored on the government`s National Tutoring Programme, providing maths and reading lessons for primary school children in person, and online GCSE Science tutoring for secondary students.

In my final year of University I gained experience leading an after school club on the environment for primary school children. Teaching new scientific concepts to 7-11 year olds developed my skills in simplifying complex material for a more clear understanding in younger children.

Brilliant tutor! After just 2 sessions, my 12 year old commented that she had already learned so much with Catherine. I was pleased when she gave me unsolicited feedback that she found Catherine "extremely knowledgeable and helpful" and that really enjoys the mini quiz that Catherine sets at the end of each session. We have been with Catherine for quite a few weeks and can see significant progress already!

Miss Catherine is an excellent tutor. She is very professional and diligent, always on time. She can relate to teenagers and can explain to them complex science issues in a language they will understand. Miss Catherine teaches my daughter GCSE combined science and thanks to her my daughter has improved her grades at school. I would recommend Miss Catherine to all students out there studying for their GCSEs and not only!
