Information about Jake

With over 1500+ hours of experience in teaching science (GCSE chemistry, physics, biology) and A-Level Chemistry and A-level Psychology I am very experienced at being able to help students overcome their learning gaps in these subjects. My passion for science as a whole will shine through and help to keep you build and maintain your motivation when it comes to studying and excelling in the sciences. I have also worked in the pharmaceutical sector developing and analysing new medicinal targets with experience of successfully applying for and attending multiple UK universities for undergraduate and postgraduate study.

I’m approachable, friendly and professional in my tutoring style and can effectively communicate scientific knowledge and information. A big part of my role in the school I work at is to train other teachers on the psychology of learning, how to build motivation and (what is known in `teacher-talk` as) metacognition and self-regulated learning which is a fancy way of saying I`m an expert in helping others become life-long, independent learners.

Availability: All of my students have recently completed their A-Levels so I have availability to take on new GCSE or A-Level students immediately. Please see my availability schedule on my profile for details as to when I`m free for tuition. Requests for tuition slots outside of this time are done on a case-by-case basis.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I am currently a qualified teacher at a secondary school and sixth-form teaching science at KS3 to A-Level.

During my time at university, I volunteered in a tuition and teaching assistant programme run by my university and taught GCSE Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths for 2 years. I also privately tutored a number of A-Level Chemistry students during this time.

I have tutored a number of students in all GCSE Science subjects, GCSE Maths and A-Level Chemistry for 7 years in total.

My daughter is in Year 12 and has just started with Jake a few weeks ago with A Level Chemistry. Jake has been an exceptional tutor so far. He is patient, kind and organised. He provides my daughter with a range of useful resources that she find extremely useful. I would highly recommend Jake.

Jake is a great tutor. He has been helping my 15-year old son catch up on his physics and has re-ignited an interest and curiosity in the subject. My son enjoys his sessions with Jake and even does his ‘homework’ between sessions without any prompting! Jake is patient, explains things clearly and has helped him develop exam skills that are transferable to a wider range of subjects. I would unhesitatingly recommend Jake.
