Information about Janice
I have over 25 years experience teaching across key stage 1 and 2 and up into year 7. I trained in special needs but spent my career working in mainstream . I have worked as a class teacher but I have also spent several years working with small groups and individuals supporting children who need extra help in class. In the last few years I worked with year 6 classes preparing pupils for SAT’s exams. I have also done tutoring for an organisation called Leaders are Readers which specialises in preparing pupils for 11+ and entrance exams. I have prepared pupils for both Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire entrance exams. I can teach in my own home or if required travel out to your house.
I normally work on a one to one basis but I have worked with pairs of pupils if required. My approach is that children learn best when enjoying work I therefore include educational games and I seek to try to get the best from all pupils to boost their confidence.
I have trained as a nurse but switched to teaching early in my career.
I enjoy puzzles and quizzes in my spare time. During the day I work as a dog walker.
Availability: I will be available evenings and weekends
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I have been a primary school teacher for over 25 years and I have worked across all of key stage 1 and 2 . I trained in special needs but spent most of my career in mainstream schools . I worked as a class teacher but I also did work for several years as a support teacher working with small groups and individual special needs children, both in the class and out. I spent the last few years working in year 6 with pupils preparing for SATs and have experience with maths and literacy exams , including the new grammar and punctuation test. I have also worked as a year 7 teacher when Harrow had year 7 pupils in primary schools. I did tutoring on Saturday mornings for Leaders are Readers a private tutoring company working with children preparing for their school entrance exams ( 11 plus) teaching verbal , non verbal and maths skills.
Since I started working as a private tutor I have worked with children who lack confidence or need extra support and those preparing for entrance exams.
