Information about Faizan
I have graduated with a masters in mechanical engineering from the University of Leeds with an expected first. I have also completed a one-year placement year at Severn Trent as an Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer. I am due to start at BT in September as a graduate Networks Engineer.
I have always performed very well academically throughout my GCSEs, A-levels and University through an approach of working smarter in combination with hard work. This is reflected in obtaining two scholarships at the University of Leeds based on my academic achievement. I have used an approach of identifying and focusing on the key knowledge points, use of engaging resources to learn, and perfecting exam technique.
I offer the first lesson/consultation for free.
Availability: I have a high availability at the moment so please message me to confirm a mutually beneficial time.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I underwent tutoring myself and sat the 11+ exam, achieving top grades and gaining entry into my secondary school of choice - King Edwards Camp Hill School and Sixth Form for Boys. From this, I have gained an understanding of how to prepare for and pass 11+ exams, where adaptability is key.
I have tutored five students in total part time over the course of four years.
Student 1: A bright young student aiming to complete the 11+ exams and enter a grammar school. I taught the student maths, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning with the aid of bond books series for 11+ exams. After one year of tutoring the student obtained a high school which allowed the student to enter King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School.
Student 2: A student with learning disabilities aiming to achieve a C in GCSE English after two failed attempts. This was to allow entry into an apprenticeship scheme as most schemes required a C in English for entry. I tutored the student for 3 months intensively focusing heavily on the skills such as techniques of critical analysis and grammar. Through patience and carefully considered explanations, the student quickly improved and achieved a C in GCSE English language and literature.
Student 3: A bright student who wanted additional help with GCSE maths and physics to boost their grades. I assisted the student in developing exam technique, identify and fixing holes in the students knowledge and learning in an interactive and engaging way to ensure motivation. The student achieved As in both.
Student 4: A year 10 student looking to boost his performance in maths, English and physics. I helped the student build a strong foundation of core knowledge, taught him good practices as an individual learner for the future and showed many real life uses of taught subjects to boost engagement.
Student 5: A very smart GCSE student looking to boost his biology and physics GCSE grades. I taught the student at a very fast pace to reflect his ability, identified and remedied gaps in knowledge, taught good exam practice and independent learning principles. The student achieved 9s in both subjects and received an offer into his sixth form of choice.
I have a very adaptive approach to teaching my students however I have a few recurring themes.
- I get along with many students who see me as a friend, and this helps to add a level of fun into lessons.
- I aim to make the lessons as fun and interactive as I can. Students often do not appreciate how much the things they learn influence their lives around them and how interesting they are. I share this
information with them, use YouTube videos and online resources to make the work more interesting.
- I guide the students to the answer so that they can form the connections and understanding in their brain, rather than telling them the answer.
- I teach good principles for independent learning and exam technique to provide skills into the future.
