Information about Liz

Hi, I`m Liz :) I`m 33 years old and a full time teacher living in Wallsend and working in Washington. I qualified as a teacher 5 years ago, though I worked in educational settings for 3 years prior to that in various roles.

I`ve always placed great importance in the value of education, and having completed an undergraduate BSc in Psychology, I`m very passionate about helping other through the learning process. I`m very patient and calm, and my aim is to create in my pupils the same love for learning that I experienced while at school and university.

For 3 and a half years I worked within secondary education, first as a Classroom Assistant and subsequently as a Cover Supervisor. I have a vast amount of classroom experience and have also experienced a range of different teaching styles through the colleagues with whom I have worked, in addition to various Continued Professional Development sessions. In 2015 I qualified as a Science teacher after gaining a PGCE in Science with Biology from the University of Sunderland, and I`m currently employed as a Teacher of Science at a secondary school rated `Good` at last inspection.

I have also recently continued my postgraduate education and completed a Post-Graduate Certificate National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinator (2018), and am currently in my final year of a Masters in Education. I really do love learning!

Availability: I am available on weekday evenings.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: In addition to a PGCE in Secondary Science and full QTS, I have qualifications relevant to the subjects for which I offer tuition, including GCSEs in English, Science and Maths (all A*-A). I have been a private tutor for several years and have worked with students at various Key Stages and ability levels. I am very familiar with the current AQA GCSE syllabus (combined and triple Science), having taught the syllabus for the last five years (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Unfortunately due to wide variation between exam board content, I am only able to offer tuition for students studying the AQA GCSE syllabus.

Prior to qualifying as as Science teacher, I was employed in various educational roles in different schools, first in Nottingham and then later in the North East, including a Teaching Assistant in Science and Special Educational Needs, an A Level Psychology teacher (unqualified), a Learning Support Assistant (first in the Behaviour Unit and then SEN department) and finally as a Cover Supervisor.

I gained valuable experience in leading lessons in the classroom and developed my teaching and behaviour management skills. I have experience teaching a wide range of ages and abilities, both individually and in groups, and I aim to maintain the high standards of competency that my previous experience has helped me to develop.

During my PGCE I was first placed at a further education college at which I taught part of the Level 3 BTEC qualification in Applied Science and the Human Physiology module of the Access to Nursing and Midwifery qualification. I was subsequently placed in an 11-16 school which has been rated `Good` under Ofsted standards. I received consistently positive feedback from both of my placement mentors and was graded as an Outstanding trainee at the end of both placements. My particular areas of excellence are behaviour management, subject knowledge and having high expectations for success in my learners. After completion of my PGCE I was offered employment in the school in which I did my second placement. I am currently employed there permanently as a Teacher of Science in my fifth year of teaching. I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics to both Key Stage 3 and 4.

I have been a private tutor for several years now and have previously tutored in A Level Psychology, GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics (Combined and Triple) and Key Stage 3 Science. I am currently offering private tuition for Key Stage 3 Science, and combined and triple GCSE Science for the AQA syllabus.
