I recently graduated with a first class degree from the University of Sheffield with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I have a strong maths background having taken my GCSE and A level modules a year early obtaining an A* in both and am continuing to a Master`s Degree in Economics at the University of Warwick next year, (one of the top 5 Universities in the United Kingdom for Economics). I enjoy instilling this passion for Maths in others through teaching.

I think when teaching Maths it is important to first demonstrate the method you are teaching and then also explain the why it works, so the student can really understand what they are being taught. This helps them to remember it, build a sense of confidence that they really understand it, and allows them to be able to work it out from first principles should they forget it later. This often means explaining a concept many times and in different ways, using analogy and demonstration. Most vital is for a student to complete many problem sets after a concept has been taught so that through repetition, it gets transferred to their long term memory, and they become adept at dealing with more challenging problems. Encouragement is key to helping a student persist with challenging concepts until it clicks and becomes straightforward. This I find to be the most satisfying element of tutoring.

Experience: I have experience tutoring two students while I was in school during their GCSE years. They both achieved A stars at GCSE level, much higher than their predicted grades, and one continued to study Physics at the University of Bristol in part, she says, because of the confidence and ability she gained from our tutorials.
