Information about Sarah

Hello, my name is Sarah and I am a fully qualified teacher, having graduated with my PGCE in Lifelong Learning in 2018 at Greenwich University. Prior to my PGCE, I also completed my BA in History and Film Studies at Kingston University. My PGCE course enabled me to become experienced in various teaching methods and theories, which has proved invaluable to my role as a teacher.

My own studies enabled me to develop a deep passion for Film, Media and History. During the Film and Media aspect of my degree,I specialised in World Cinema and Representation. Through such focus, I was able to gain a passion for looking at the world through different perspectives, which makes learning Media and Film such a interesting subject!

Throughout my teaching of History, I have covered a wide range of modules from the rise and fall of the Tsars, to Nazi Germany. History is such a passion of mine and I find it so important that the student also feels that! I never want the student to walk away from the lesson finding the subject boring. Through my teaching of these subjects, I have been able to successfully ensure that students were constantly engaged and developed a passion. This ultimately led to them entering these subjects at degree level, and on to their dream careers.

I have wide ranging experience of teaching in a secondary school and sixth form. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught all courses from GCSE and above in History, Film and Media Studies. I have experience of teaching both online and in classrooms. I have assisted in university applications and am happy to look at students university applications and essays for proofreading and tips. I am also experienced in practical coursework in Film and Media Studies, so I am happy to look over practical pieces.

My teaching style:

My approach to teaching is to tailor my strategies to the individual student. I don’t believe in a ‘one size fits all approach’. Instead I believe in listening to what the student wants from their tutoring sessions and what areas they feel they need extra support in. During my teaching career so far, I have taught three different subjects at once to various age groups. As a result I am experienced in adapting my teaching strategies and lesson plans. I try to be as interactive as I can to ensure that the student is fully involved in lessons and enjoying what is being taught. Following my discussion with the student, I then tailor my lesson plans to suit. I do provide weekly tasks to be completed by the student in between sessions to provide extra support.

For the time being I am only offering a online tutoring service only due to COVID-19. I use Zoom and the online whiteboard on Tutor Hunt for my lessons. I’m very flexible with arranging convenient times for you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you!

Availability: I am available anytime Monday-Friday. At the weekends I’m available Saturday and Sunday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: A flexible and passionate fully qualified Film Studies, Media Studies and History teacher. Through my availability to teach a number of subjects, I have developed a wide range of experience of teaching both face to face and online. Sarah has been brilliant teaching `A` level history to my son. She was flexible with the lessons and my son has far more knowledge and confidence since she started. Highly recommended and thank you Sarah.

Sarah is a great tutor. She is very knowledgeable and is patient when explaining something to my daughter. We have not formally met because of COVID but she seems like a very lively lady. I would certainly recommend her for History A Level

Sarah is currently teaching my daughter A2 Media Studies each week for an hour, the sessions have been running for 4 weeks. My daughter says the lessons run extremely well, Sarah adds her own resources such as slides and keeps the content relative to the work planned. Each week homework is set and then followed up in the next session. They work towards agreed gaols and sessions flow well. My daughter says Sarah must do research for the lessons which she really appreciates. The lessons work well because my daughter interacts with Sarah quite happily and so far we are very happy with the quality of teaching. Well done and thanks Sarah for all your hard work to date.
