Information about Rachel
Thank you for viewing my profile. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is of course not possible to conduct lessons in person at present. However, I have had some success conducting online sessions, via Skype, Zoom and WhatsApp. In light of the necessity for home schooling, I am also increasing my age bracket to include all secondary school years, from 7-11 in science and maths, and year 12 in Chemistry. Online rates will be between £20-£30/h.
When I am not tutoring, I work part-time completing my PhD in developing new kinds of plastics from renewable materials (like plants and carbon dioxide) at Imperial College London. Prior to this, I achieved a first class masters degree in Green Chemistry, also at Imperial, and a Natural Sciences MSci degree from Durham university. I also manage and run a small international development charity working in the South Pacific.
I am available to tutor in all science and maths subjects to AS Level standard and Chemistry and Physics to A Level standard. I have extensive experience working with children and teenagers, in particular, spent a year as head of maths at a secondary school in the South Pacific where I taught A-level standard maths and physics.
I have experience with all the latest science and maths GCSE specifications (9-1 and iGCSE), and current A Level Chemistry specifications.
I usually recommend a 60 or 90 minute lesson or two hours with a break, but this will depend on the individual student. I charge £40 for the first hour to include travel time, and £30 for the second. I am usually happy to travel to you, so a 90 minute lesson would cost £55.
Please get in touch with your requirements. Although I have experience mostly tutoring older students, I have worked with younger students and children in various other capacities, and will consider tutoring pupils of all ages. However, priority will always be given to exam students in years 11 and 13, and to those living in and around Morden.
I myself am bubbly and energetic, with a love for the outdoors. I am passionate towards environmental issues and equal opportunities. In my spare time, I organise a charity project to build and develop schools in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu.

Couldnt recommend Rachel more. She is very knowledgeable and very good with my son who now understands so much more after only 3 lessons
Rachel has a very good style of instruction and explains things very clearly.
Our daughter is very happy with Rachel. She is finding the lessons helpful and is performing well in her school tests.
Rachel is a dedicated tutor and puts a lot of effort and time into the lessons
An update after receiving GCSE results : Our daughter got a 9 in Chemistry and 8s in Biology and Physics. This is great because it lets her take Further Maths at her first choice school as she needed grade 8 or above for both Physics and Maths. These results are well beyond our expectations. We keep thinking back to when our daughter was in key stage 3 and always said she didn`t understand science. So we decided at the beginning of year 10 that it may help to have a tutor. Rachel`s patient and experienced approach has certainly worked and helped bring out the best in our daughter. Thank you again Rachel.
We really recommend Rachel, who has helped our daughter with her science GCSEs (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) for one hour a week over the last 2 years. Our daughter has just finished her last lesson with Rachel and her predicted grades for science have all really improved, without Rachel`s help this would not have been possible. Rachel is very experienced and our daughter really appreciated Rachel`s great explanations and pragmatic approach, and her confidence in the subjects really grew with Rachel`s help. Rachel was always encouraging, especially when our daughter felt under pressure academically.
Rachel was an amazing tutor. She got the best out of my daughter. She encouraged her in a subject (maths) that she was not confident in and she got a great GCSE result.
Excellent, professional and is a great communicator. Highly recommended.
Rachel is an inspiring, professional and engaging tutor who has rekindled my child`s enthusiasm for science. Explaining things in a detailed, clear and accessible way is her forte.
My daughter is really enjoying her science lessons with Rachel. She is already growing in confidence and with only having had 2 lessons I also feel we have found a great fit with Rachel.
Rachel is currently teaching my son IGCSE chemistry. She is obviously very knowledgeable and has an excellent way of imparting that knowledge! She clearly loves her subject and my son as benefited tremendously from her tutorials. Highly recommended!
My son had always found Chemistry and Physics difficult and had struggled in exams. In the Sept ahead of his GCSE exams, Rachel started to tutor him for 90 mins a week, mostly during term time. She was always patient, friendly and helped to explain scientific concepts from first principles. My son`s understanding and abilities improved by the month and we were all delighted when he achieved A* in both his GCSE Chemistry and Physics exams - probably two or three grades higher than would have been the case without Rachel`s help. Thank you so much. I can highly recommend Rachel as a tutor.

Rachel taught my son GCSE Physics and Chemistry for about 9 months (2013-14) in Year 11. Excellent teacher with lots of knowledge and friendly manor. Highly recommended
