Information about Anthony

I have 5 years experience in education, 1 year + as a tutor, and last taught in an inner city school in Tottenham, London until December 2020. We taught in mixed ability classes rather than ability sets, where I supported students of all abilities within the same classroom, quickly adapting my approach to the level of each student. I am highly flexible in teaching as students learn best.
I ensure students celebrate the skills they are already confident with. Together we consolidate foundational skills, and build on their skills with a logical and secure upwards progression. We revisit skills at intervals to cement them in students` minds. For those that need it, I give regular practice in the core skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, which can sometimes be overlooked in secondary, as well as finding factors, multiples, and number bonds to 90, 180, 270, 360 (for angle questions).

Maths is an essential skill not only for the world of work, but also for many aspects of our personal lives, and I ensure my students understand the value of Maths skills, so that they know what they are working towards. Learning Maths develops resilience and confidence – in particular the satisfaction of knowing you are completely and indisputably right, which they get in few other subjects.

As the eldest of six, I have years of experience working with children, not only in education but also at youth centres, holiday camps and mid-week clubs, including abroad. My experience in education includes special needs schools (primary and secondary), as well as alternative provision (primary and secondary). My genuine, straightforward manner and way of clearly showing that I care about them and their success means I quickly get on with students and can encourage them effectively in their learning.

I speak a number of languages and can offer bilingual Maths tuition in French, German and Russian. I can offer also more limited bilingual support in Romanian, Bulgarian and Dutch.

I completed my teacher training at King`s College, London, and my NQT year at Park View School, Haringey, London.

My first lesson is not free, but at a reduced rate of £10/hr.

I charge 40p per mile travelled.

Willing to travel: 12 miles

5/5 Rating

I have taken classes with Anthony since February 2013 and I have been very pleased with the results.

After these lessons, I have vastly improved my grammar, my speaking, and my listening skills, as well as expanded my vocabulary. Anthony’s patience and encouragement helped me get through the areas I struggled with the most, and also gave me the confidence to keep learning. We also discussed a wide range of topics, from the most basic to more complex subjects, all of them entertainingly presented and very useful for my language progress.

I enjoyed being able to choose which topics interested me so we could focus on my interests and passions in class. I love travelling, so once we pretended I was in a hotel and I had to ask for a room in French another time Anthony helped me write a postcard in Russian. I have significantly increased my vocabulary thanks to Anthony’s helpful methods, which made memorising much easier: for example. I learned food vocabulary by going to the supermarket, and used the words I learned from flashcards in sentences. Anthony has also provided me with loads of materials and resources that have helped me improve my reading skills, such as comics, vocabulary books, and grammar books.

I will be hard-pressed to find as engaging a tutor as Anthony once he leaves London, and I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for high quality private lessons.
