Information about Dave

Hi there - I`m Dave. I`m a qualified actuary and senior lecturer in Actuarial Science at QMUL.
I have a 2:1 honours degree in Applied Maths and Computer Science and over 1000 hours of teaching with hundreds of online experience.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy with distinction which means I hold the highest teaching qualification available in the UK.

I focus on providing top grades in the STEM subjects - Maths and Computer Science.

I will stick with you until your exams are finished and guarantee you will improve your grade by at least one level with me.

I structure my lessons and assign homework for you.

In our first lesson we will:
- Understand together the areas you need the most help
- Put together a structured lesson plan to follow to get you to the understanding you need
- Decide on time and day for lessons (I find regular commitment to the same time and day works best)
- Go through any questions / queries you might have about the process

The following lessons of one hour are split as follows:
- 5 minutes at the beginning to recap the last lesson
- 10 minutes of introducing the next topic in our agreed lesson plan (we will put this together in our first
- 10 minutes going through an example question on the topic
- 15 minutes of you trying a question on the topic on your own
- 10 minutes of examining where you got stuck on the question and helping to unblock your thinking
- 5 minutes of assigning the next portion of reading or revision for the next lesson
- 5 minutes at the end, tidy up - I will need to finish to get ready for my next student.

This is a tried and trusted formula that works well.

For students that need more help, are studying more complex material or have impending deadlines we can extend the lessons to 2 hours but this is the max. I find that concentration levels both from me and the student(!) start to fade after about 90 minutes really.
