Experience: Mathematics fascinates me and it is a subject that I thoroughly enjoy. I have completed my PGCE with QTS with the Gorse SCITT which has helped me develop and deepen my subject knowledge and pedagogy, and been fundamental in my current role as a secondary school math teacher. I have a full time post in a secondary school and am currently in my third year of teaching. My aim is to inspire, encourage, and motivate children and young people with a fun, patient, approachable and engaging manner.
Teaching in a school has given me an excellent understanding of the GCSE curriculum which I have taught to multiple classes daily. I am fully aware of the struggles that students have in maths mostly due to gaps in their knowledge, lack of confidence and misconceptions of key topics. I use a range of different methods and techniques to support your mathematical skills for the best interest.
As a teacher, I have been responsible for marking books and exam papers for classes. This has given me an insight into the different misconceptions that prevents students from fulfilling their potential and is something I am able to address when tutoring students. I use diagnostic questions which is quick and accurate way of assessing students’ knowledge and understanding of a key skills or concept and identify fundamental misconceptions that provide meaningful Assessment for Learning (AFL). My classroom experience together with my deep understanding of the curriculum, is something that cannot be imitated by tutoring alone.
