Information about Rami
I`m a friendly, outgoing and academic person with a strong background in media, film and television studies.
Throughout my time studying Film and Television Studies, I was extremely passionate about the subject and was a vocal participant and leader of seminars. Through guidance and shared working, I helped my friends achieve grades which they had felt they were not capable of, and I was frequently told that I was a patient and educated tutor. This led me to want to teach, because I enjoyed the subject so deeply and I saw that I could have a tangible impact on others.
I feel strongly that the right teacher can have an impact on a person for the rest of their life, both in their passion for a subject and in their outlook on life. Whether a person enjoys a subject or not can be entirely dependent on their teacher in my view, with the most important characteristics being patience, understanding and allowing students to come to their own conclusions. Even if students are not passionate about a subject, it doesn`t have to be a miserable experience. I believe I am capable of creating the right learning environment for my students and can help them learn in an enjoyable fashion.
I currently have about 4+ years experience working in the media as a video journalist for Sky News. Before Sky I worked at the BBC, the Times, the Telegraph and the Press Association. I graduated with distinction from my master`s degree in Television Journalism at City, University of London, and I graduated with First Class Honours in my Film and Television Studies degree at Aberystwyth University before that.
I have always and will continue to refuse to write essays for students. But I will provide the support and encouragement to make the process much more approachable and even enjoyable!
Availability: I am available most evenings and weekends.
Willing to travel: 4 miles
Experience: I have worked in the media for roughly five years now, currently as a journalist for Sky News, where I craft video, write scri pts and work with correspondents to produce daily and weekly news videos. Before Sky I worked for BBC World News for a year and a half, where I produced hourly news bulletins for television. And before that I freelanced for the The Times, the Press Association and the Telegraph in various roles.
I also studied media, graduating with Distinction from City University for an MA in Television Journalism, where I learned a lot of the skills that later became essential to my daily job. A lot of these will come in handy for students of media studies, both in academic terms with subjects such as Media Ethics and Media Law but also in practical sense with film-making and working to produce daily news stories.
Before studying to be a journalist I graduated with a First Class Honours in Film and Television Studies from Aberystwyth University, where I studied subjects including Film Genre, History of Cinema, Classical and Contemporary Hollywood Cinema, Media Studies, Advertising and more. I excelled in the essays, coursework and film production that I did, many of which I have retained (both successful and not successful) and can use as examples of what degree-level teachers expect from student essays. Many of these subjects form the core of GCSE and A-Level Film Studies and Media Studies and I am confident that I have the knowledge to guide a student through to getting the grades they deserve.
