Information about Catherine
I am a qualified teacher with a maths degree and experience of tutoring and teaching maths covering over nine years. I`ve worked with students ranging from primary to sixth form.
Whatever my students’ goals and needs, I personalise my lessons especially for them. I use my teaching experience to design lessons that develop their knowledge and understanding step by step. I answer all their questions and delve deeper into topics they want or need to spend more time on. I also support my students in revising effectively and becoming more independent. Perhaps most importantly, I work on building up confidence so that my students can get the most out of their lessons with me and at school.
For GCSE and A level students I cover exam preparation in addition to teaching new topics, including exam technique, revision, practice papers and homework to ensure students are well prepared.
Availability: I currently have limited availability on Wednesday evening or early Saturday morning.
I offer in-person tutoring in a quiet room in my home in Oxted.

Experience: After graduating from my maths degree, I initially worked for a big 4 accountancy firm for 6 years, specialising in forensic accounting, and also volunteering as a maths tutor at a London secondary school. In 2009 I retrained to become a qualified teacher, teaching in primary schools in London. I have also been a stay-at-home parent to my three children, both in the UK and for a number of years in Chicago.
I now specialise in tutoring and I’ve tutored maths privately both in person and online for almost 3 years, with students studying KS2, KS3, GCSE and International Baccalaureate. I also tutor in Surrey primary schools as a catch-up tutor with the National Tutoring Programme.

Catherine is a very lovely and approachable tutor. My daughter is shy and isn’t comfortable with many adults but she immediately felt comfortable with Catherine, enjoys her tutoring sessions and very quickly felt she was learning a lot. We feel very lucky to have found Catherine.

We found Catherine via Tutorhunt in November 2018. For our Granddaughter, who really enjoyed Maths but found some areas quite difficult to fully understand, (She was at the age that I found it difficult to teach the best methods to assist her anymore). We felt she would benefit from some private tuition. After finding Catherine and checking her CV. We knew that she would be right for our then year 7 Grandaughter. she has made such progress since 2018. And always looked forward to Visiting Catherine’s house for her weekly Maths lesson at the weekend, She has improved so much in her Class work and Exam scenarios at School. Recently receiving special commendations during these strange “Lockdown” times for many schoolchildren, Catherine has continued with our Grandaughter’s lessons during this time with the wonders of the internet and zoom etc. And our Grandaughter really benefits from that extra ( one to one) help during these strange time of virtual schooling. she will be coming up to year 10 this Summer and our Grandaughter and we would very much like to continue with Catherine’s help throughout her time at School. Personally we will be forever thankful to her, for helping her through her Maths concerns And I know she really enjoys it , never wanting to miss a lesson at the weekends and that’s saying something for a teenager that has other stuff on their minds too. Catherine is an amazing tutor, always very well prepared. My daughter loves working with her and she has worked wonders with her confidence in maths! She saw her though GCSE and is now helping her with IB.
