Hi! I’m Phill and I’m a qualified primary school teacher with nine years experience, having taught in three schools rated ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED.

I am taking a break from formal teaching this year so that I have the flexibility to support my partner and our child in the first year of our lives together.

My specialities are teaching maths and English to primary-aged children. Here, I draw upon my experience of teaching classes in Years 5 and 6, helping ensure they have the skills and knowledge that they need for secondary school.

I am also a computing specialist. I have been the lead teacher of computing at two primary schools and also been responsible for training teachers at another. I can help children gain the skills they need to begin coding, making digital media (photography, drawing, animation and music) and become more confident in using computers. I want to help make sure that my students have the skills and knowledge they need for the jobs of the future, as well as enjoying the chance to express their creativity.

I am a creative, enthusiastic person with a broad range of interests. I studied History of Art as my undergraduate degree and Museum Education as my postgraduate degree at Manchester University. Prior to teaching, I worked in providing educational sessions in museums and art galleries for over five years.

I am able to use this experience to ensure the activities that I provide to my students are engaging and enjoyable whilst still being academically challenging. I aim to use the interests and passions of my students to make sure the learning process is as fun as it can be.

This is the first time I have tutored privately so I have no references as such, but I am happy to provide references from my school employers.

Experience: I have taught at primary school level for ten years and have worked in three OFSTED outstanding schools. I have been part of two OFTED inspections, my teaching observed by inspectors, the outcomes of which were outstanding.

I was able to undertake my training due to my excellent academic track record as part of the prestigious Teach First training programme. I undertook my PGCE at UCL`s Institute of Education in London, ranked first in the world for teacher training.

I worked for four years in Newham and Hackney, East London. Here, I worked as a Year 6 classroom teacher for two years, gaining valuable experience of SATs exams. I also worked as Science Subject Leader for my school.

I then worked as Head of Key Stage 2 at a school in Lincolnshire, East Midlands, working with a Year 4 class for one year.

I then went on to work with a Year 6 Class at a private preparatory school in Lincolnshire. Here, as well as leading the teaching of Computing across the school, I taught after school clubs for pupils undertaking 11+ exams for local selective secondary schools. While I worked here, our teaching was judged to be `outstanding` by OFSTED.

Finally, before I left teaching to focus on my family, I worked for three years as a Year 5 teacher at a primary school in Levenshulme. Here, I was also the lead teacher of computing, as well as training other teachers at another nearby school at the same time. While I worked here, our school was inspected by OFSTED and judged to be `outstanding`.
