Information about Maya
I am a Fine Art student at Oxford University, basing a lot of my practice on concepts from mathematical theory. I have been exposed to both arts and sciences throughout my education.
Languages are also a passion of mine: I speak Russian (native), English (native) and French.
NO `One-size-fits-all` approach. Each session is carefully tailored to specifically fit the student`s needs, taking into considerations their character and habits, with careful attention to their learning preferences and progress rate.
I have 2 years worth of free-lance teaching experience varying from Primary school children to Adult-learners, International and UK students, and learners with disabilities.
Being Dyspraxic myself I a have a particular resonance with and admiration for students willing to extend their learning skills beyond the classroom conditions. I am more than willing to provide mentoring closely related and tailored to their character and habits, not only in order to achieve higher grades, but also to build up the student`s confidence and independence when approaching learning.
SPECIALISING IN:
* Fine Art (and Theory)/Contemporary Drawing/Painting
* Creative development of any form (particularly has been popular/successful with beginning Adult-learners and pre-GCSE students, but works for all students of any age or ability)
* English as a Foreign Language (emphasis on conversation, pronunciation and accent, improving fluency)
* Pre-A-level homework in humanities subjects, French, Russian, Mathematics, Art, Drama and Sciences.
Availability: My timetable is very flexible and I am available on most days of the week and on the weekend.
Such flexibility also permits extended hours and cramming in sessions if needed to polish up on exam technique or address urgent burning issues, which students find very convenient, especially when running up to an exam.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: - 2 years of free-lance tutoring experience varying from Primary school children to Adult-learners, International and UK students, and learners with disabilities.
- Learning skills for students with dyspraxia and dyslexia
- `Mathematics Laboratory` at Cheltenham Ladies College, helping students there to grasp new mathematical concepts introduced at GCSE and A-level Mathematics (and Further Maths). Most saw significant grade elevation, some from C to B/A and A to A*.
- Assisting the EFL department at the Sherborne International College, working with students of various backgrounds, nationalities and ages (9 - 21 years old). I enjoy teaching international students, as throughout my life I have been exposed to a diversity of cultures, having travelled and attended international summer schools in England and France almost every summer since I was 9 years old. Thus I discovered a `mode of communication` with EFL students that assisted me in narrowing the miscommunication gap regarding culture and language differences, granting me with better apprehension of `what the student actually meant to say`.
