Information about Sally
I am a qualified teacher with a passion for teaching and learning. I hold a PGCE and a BEng (Hons) degree and I am currently studying for a Masters Degree in Education.
Before becoming a maths teacher I worked as a civil engineer which essentially involves the application of mathematics and physics. This background allows me to relate learning to real-world situations.
I also studied history and geography to an advanced level and achieved A grades.
I engage mostly with pupils in KS3 and KS4 studying for GCSEs. I also offer TEFL sessions and tuition for the QTS numeracy and literacy skills tests.
I have a friendly and informal approach to tutoring which allows students to learn in a relaxed and unpressured environment. My lessons are adapted to the learning styles and needs of each individual pupil.
I hold teaching qualifications and an enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) certificate.
In my spare time I enjoy visiting the Peak District and dancing.
Availability: Weekdays and weekends
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have taught multiple subjects to students aged 11-18 and I also have experience with younger and older learners. I have experience in primary schools as well as experience tutoring college students, university students and adult learners in a range of subjects over that last 8 years.
I vary my approach to tutoring depending on the needs, ability and age of the student, but in all cases I`m patient, friendly and encouraging.
I ensure learners have a firm grounding in fundamental skills, before moving on to more complex problems. This helps to build confidence and by relating textbook information to real world examples enthusiasm for the subject matter is developed.
I have found that by improving exam technique and by working on specific subject trouble spots, a significant improvement can be made to a students performance and confidence, even with just a few sessions in the run up to exams.
