Information about Rachel

My name is Rachel and I am 28 years old.

I am a Secondary Teacher of English with five years experience of teaching all aspects of both KS3 and KS4 curriculums. I also have some KS5 (A-Level) experience. As a secondary school teacher, I cover all aspects of both English Literature and English Language. I have experience of teaching both the AQA and Eduqas examination board.

Lots of students struggle with the demands of the English GCSE courses - especially with regards to extended writes. I aim to create a safe and secure environment conducive to learning as it’s viral that students feel comfortable whilst learning. Within my classroom, pupils understand it’s ok to experiment and make mistakes as this is when the best learning takes place.

I have experience with a wide range of children and have the ability to adapt lessons to support the individual child`s needs. I enjoy the challenge of working with disengaged students who struggle with education as a whole as it is my belief that all students are capable of achieving excellent grades despite obstacles they may face. Our young people have faced unprecedented challenges due to the recent pandemic and as a teaching practitioner, I feel it is my duty to bridge any ‘gaps’ that may have appeared in their knowledge over the last 12 months.

As a person I am warm, friendly and approachable. I honestly love working with and educating young people… sometimes I feel like I learn more from them than they do from me! My students inspire me every day and I would cherish the opportunity to offer my teaching services to more students outside of the classroom.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: Experience: Since becoming a secondary teacher I have taught KS3, KS4, and KS5. I have been teaching for four years and have worked with the most able students and those with special educational needs. I have taught both the AQA and Eduqas exam board and have also received training in examination marking. I am an expert when it comes to all things Shakespeare and I thoroughly enjoy teaching poetry and Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

Prior to teaching I was training to be a solicitor and have experience teaching basic legal rights to inmates at Strangeways Prison to support their rehabilitation.

I have a keen interest in helping students build their self-esteem. English can be a difficult subject for some pupils, and I always strive to encourage a love of learning within my pupils. My goal is to enable my students to achieve the grades they need to succeed after education, whilst also enjoying the process of learning.
