My name is Chris and I am a full time professional tutor specialising in Maths and Science. I have been an A-level Physics teacher for four years, an A-level Physics technician for three and offering tuition since 2016. I became a full-time tutor in 2019 and have been working with students both in person and online.

In my spare time I enjoy kayaking, canoe polo, mountain biking and climbing. I am very passionate about music, playing guitar and bass.

Availability: Adapting to tutoring during COVID lockdown times created a huge shift to online learning. Something which most teachers and students have had bad experiences with. Overworked teachers who had no alternative to use existing powerpoints with a voice over which provided an ineffective online learning environment which left students disengaged. Interaction with a 1-to-30 environment is not feasible. However 1-to-1 is far more immersive, interactive whiteboards, online java apps and online practical`s using VPL makes it actually more interactive than in person and personally, I feel that students make just as much progress online.

I`ve invested in a dual monitor setup to enable me to prepare the next activity, a high end condenser microphone to improve the quality of audio and a graphics tablet to annotate and show working.

Please message me for availability, even if you have little options, I will try my best to accommodate all circumstances, as being self employed I have the flexibility to do so. I am currently doing online and in-person based at my house in Hopwood. I can also offer tuition at the students house, however there will be extra charge to cover travel and time.

Experience: Identifying the area of improvement for a student is critical, some students struggle with a subject, not due to poor understanding or comprehension but lack of confidence, something very difficult to help within a classroom environment. Other concerns such as "the teacher moves too fast" and "the class are really disruptive so the teacher can teach" can be easily addressed with weekly support.

My degree background is in Physics where I studied a range of topics from low temperature properties of Helium-3 to using Lagrangian mechanics to solve unconventional mechanics problems which require a strong Mathematical skill set. Having the depth of knowledge allows me to stretch a students understanding beyond the scope of even the A-level specification.

Mathematics is a highly important language to solving physics problems. It could be working out an equation of a line to show the relationship between two variables at GCSE or using SUVAT equations to explain the nature of a projectile at A-level.

I also run a company that helps schools develop their practical physics curriculum but looking at their equipment and teaching resources and how they can be best used to help the effectiveness of teaching.
