Information about Pyaesone

Hi! I`ve just finished my fourth year of medical school at Newcastle University, and I`m currently enrolled to start a Master`s of Medical Education in September 2021.

The main areas that I focus on are maths (11plus/KS3/GCSE/A-level), although I also provide medicine interview preparation and sessions to boost personal statements - these lessons are all conducted online.
Outside of academia, I teach adult learner piano lessons ranging from beginner to intermediate level which can be either at home or online.

Generally speaking, I will be able to provide one-off lessons or structured long-term sessions on the basis of what works best for my students.

My overall approach to teaching is centred on the progress of each student: I will ask how they`re doing at school/college, along with the areas they`re weak/strong at to gauge their current ability.
There`s an undeniable truth that everyone works at their own pace, and being a tutor gives me this privilege to cater specifically to that. No questions should be left unanswered, and my aim is always is to foster confidence in learners to help them reach their full potential.

For Maths, my methods vary depending on the level of education the student is currently at:
- at the 11plus/KS3 level, I can provide presentations delineating particular topics of interest; I also can provide worksheets to assess improvement
- for GCSE/A level, presentations are also provided by request alongside discussing and reviewing past paper questions

With regards to medicine admissions, I focus on MMI and traditional/individual stations. During a teaching session, I can run through topics students are struggling with, as well as organising mini-circuits and prompt cards. I also believe that structure is paramount for every scenario, and truly the backbone to success in this context. For this, I offer tricks and tips centred around the student and how they think.
This, I believe, will give students more exposure, confidence, and experience with the interview format.
Entering a Master`s heavily involving essay writing, I can aid students in forming their personal statements. I navigate around what to prioritise given the limited word count, as well as sharpen their editorial skills.

The piano has become an extension of myself since I was young. With years of experience in exam-condition performance and composition, as well as having completed GCSE and AS level qualifications in music, I was given the opportunities to play in concerts at school and external venues.
Playing up till grade 8 ABRSM at the end of Sixth Form, I have ample knowledge on how to optimise piano practice for casual learners on pieces of their choice.

Availability: Until September 2021, I will be tutoring full-time with availability on weekdays and weekends. This shall move to part-time once September commences.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: Throughout my time in medical school thus far, I have always aided my peers with medical examination preparation in the hospital or at GP practices. I would create or choose pre-made scenarios, run through them from the perspective of an examiner, and feedback accordingly. Constructive criticism, therefore, is a skill I am always improving on.

For a year during my time at secondary school, I volunteered to help pupils at a local academy improve their literacy skills during their GCSEs.
In each session, I would work through the book chosen by the student and assess their understanding of what they had read. Usually, this would revolve around the meaning of particular words; I would provide examples of how to use them in sentences, as well as simplified definitions.

Additionally, I used to help teachers in the nearby junior school in Sixth Form during lessons. Usually, I would help with spelling tests, as well as other subjects such as geography.

Although not strictly an academic subject taught in schools, for most summers before Covid-19 I would help teach children about Buddhism and Burmese culture alongside other volunteers. The demographic taught would vary in age, and thus I adapted to the curriculum for appointed classes accordingly. Having presented topics on Burmese culture to these children, my ability to engage students at different levels of understanding has developed.
