Information about Tracy
I am a patient, friendly, highly-qualified teacher and AQA GCSE examiner with a passion for English and an excellent record of supporting students to obtain their targets and above.
A lot of my students come to me, throughout key stage 3 and 4 but particularly in Year 10 and Year 11, as they are struggling with English in large classes in school and have lost confidence in their ability. Some students have dropped out of school altogether due to severe anxiety. I find that, within a couple of sessions, they are already feeling happier and more confident because I am able to work at their pace, talking them through their literature set texts and language papers, advising them on exactly what is expected in their answers, answering their questions and giving them lots of encouragement and instant feedback on the writing they do. I love seeing all of my students blossom and realise that they can achieve their target levels and above.
I offer tuition in all aspects of English to home-educated students, those in primary, secondary and sixth-form/college and adults. I am currently tutoring students from a number of local schools including Millfield, Wells Blue, Crispin, St Dunstans, Wells Cathedral, Whitstone, Huish Episcopi Academy, Heathfield and Bridgwater College Academy.
I also enjoy tutoring home educated students; I understand there are a variety of educational philosophies and I am always mindful of these and flexible with my tutoring to suit the needs of each individual child and family.
Some students come to me for support with verbal reasoning skills and English exam papers to get them ready for 11+ and 13+ entrance exams. Verbal reasoning is not taught in school so it is helpful to have a few sessions to understand what is required and speed-up on their answers.
I generally see students in my well-equipped tutor room with beautiful, relaxing views across the Somerset levels. Parents are welcome to stay; I have a comfortable settee, tea and biscuits. There are also peaceful walks or a vibrant town with plenty of coffee shops you can visit within 5 minutes. I am currently tutoring online only but I will return to face to face for those who prefer this way of tutoring as soon as possible.
I also offer fun, creative writing lessons for children and adults and poetry workshops.
If your child would benefit from some extra support and a confidence boost, please message me and we can discuss their needs.
Thank you so much for all your creative and truly inspiring poetry and English lessons with my daughter. I can honestly say that I have never encountered such a wonderful, truly dedicated and caring tutor. Thank you so very, very much.

I learnt more with Tracy in 3 hours than I did with my teachers in school in 3 years.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for yesterday. When we left yours Dec was so different, he seemed positive, willing and keen to carry on trying to learn which is a very different boy to what I have been seeing for a long time. Its almost like a big weight has been lifted for both of us. I was amazed by the content of his words and writing yesterday, it just proves he can do it.

A brilliant teacher!
We are thrilled with the progress our son made with Tracy - his confidence improved along with his levels and he started to enjoy English again.
"Tracy is an inspirational teacher. Whoever she teaches can only benefit from her time and expertise."
I attended Tracy`s poetry evening classes in autumn 2017. Tracy struck the perfect note of being beautifully organised and professional, as well as brimming with warmth, ideas and creativity. Her lessons set a theme, sowed a seed and offered great materials to get our own creative juices flowing. Tracy is immensely supportive and encouraging, and her house offers a truly lovely environment for this work, with the most fabulous, inspiring view across the ever-changing Somerset landscape to Glastonbury tor. A joyous, fun and thought provoking experience, heartily recommended!
Availability: I tutor on Saturday mornings, weekdays and evenings. I am also happy to see students over the holidays to get them ready for a new school term or for extra, pre-exam support.
Please message me for my current availability.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: Experienced, highly-qualified English teacher and GCSE exam marker working in a local secondary school with a masters degree in poetry and an excellent record of supporting students to obtain their levels and above.
I have experience tutoring home-educated students, students with severe anxiety, students who only attend school part-time and students who are full-time in school but need some extra support.
Feedback For Tracy (6)
Tracy is a fantastic tutor and an absolute joy. She has managed to gently guide our 16 year old son through his GCSE English Language resit. With her help he`s gone from confused and frustrated to confident and positive. She is a passionate and inspiring teacher who I would highly recommend to anyone. I can not thank her enough for the difference she has made.
Friendly, welcoming, understanding. Tracy is captured my sons attention from the start and able to engage him on the right level. Really pleased we found Tracy!
Tracy is simply wonderful!
Our reserved son, who struggles with social anxiety felt very comfortable with Tracy from the very first lesson. He was facing his Edexcel GCSE Language exam with a total lack of confidence, unable to achieve even a pass grade on a mock paper. With Tracy`s help he has made huge steps forward in a very short time, and is now able to tackle mock questions with a new confidence of how to reach the higher grades. He has made tremendous progress!
We home educate, and so have considerable experience in tutoring help, and would have to class Tracy as one of the best! We can heartily recommend her.
Tracy is an amazing teacher. My son has gained confidence and achievement with her help. His looming GCSEs seemed impossible but with Tracys help things have fallen into place and his grades have already increased. Tracy is very patient and understanding I would not hesitate to recommend Tracy to anyone looking for help to improve their English.
We were so lucky to find Tracy on Tutor Hunt.
My 13 year old son, who struggles with some dyslexia and is a reluctant writer, has already gained so much enthusiasm with his KS3 English. He has takene up his pen and written, he has picked up his book and read of his own volition!
Tracy has the ability to entice students with her love of Creative writing, literature and the beauty of her subject as a whole. She has a warm, friendly but firm persona and together with her comfortable, peaceful working space students can get into the zone and work at their optimum level quite happily. We are looking forward to forging ahead through to GCSE with Tracy.
I am so very grateful to Tracy for kindly helping my son, Jacob, through his GCSE English. Jacob was struggling and felt very anxious and unconfident about his exam, but Tracy has helped Jacob build his confidence and has helped Jacob believe in himself. Tracy is extremely kind, patient and understanding, as well as being a professional and excellent teacher. Tracy has gone through the whole exam paper in great detail teaching Jacob how to answer every question correctly. I am delighted with Jacobs progress and he is feeling much happier and more confident every time he sees Tracy. Jacob comes home after every lesson extremely proud of the work that Tracy has helped him to achieve. Jacob says that everything is making much more sense now and enjoys English. Thank you so very much for everything, Tracy, you are an excellent teacher and your students are very lucky to have you.
