Information about Sarah
I am a friendly and approachable teacher, with a wealth of experience of teaching Science, and a student-centred approach to learning.
I have an in-depth understanding of the process of learning, and aim to use this to personalise the approach I choose for each student that I teach, so that all are able to succeed and achieve their goals. I believe in involving and empowering the student within their learning journey, in order to allow ownership of the progress. Learning looks different for everybody and I will not offer a `one-size-fits-all` programme. I want each student to feel confident that they have achieved their own success, with a bit of help from me!
I have taught all three Science subjects at GCSE, covering a number of different specifications, so am able to work with students on understanding exam technique and improving confidence, as well as developing their core knowledge.
Availability: This can vary, so please do ask. I can offer one-off bespoke sessions, or a series of sessions, depending on needs. These could focus on particular topics, or may be broad-ranging, complementing studies from school/college.
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I am a qualified secondary school Science teacher, with a specialism in Biology, which I have taught to A Level / BTEC Level 3 Applied Science. I have taught both Chemistry and Physics to GCSE level, enabling students to succeed, even when they may be lacking in confidence. This has included a range of different specifications, so I have a clear understanding of the requirements of different exam boards, and the type of answers they are looking to see in the exam papers.
I have 12 years experience, teaching in a range of settings, including local secondary schools and a private school. This has included teaching students across the age range, from Year 6 to Year 13.
Coaching outdoor sports, such as kayaking, and completing modules on critical thinking and mentoring in my MA in Education, have all contributed to my accessible, student-focused teaching style.
