Information about Sarah
I am young (ish!!) teacher well I like to think so anyway!! who enjoys teaching and is passionate about the job. I have had extensive experience in the classroom and as a tutor. I believe in the importance of supporting children to develop confidence, independence and resilience to help them become lifelong learners.
I have lived in Somerset for 11 years now and my successful tutoring business has continued to grow since moving.
I have sons who are 14 and 11 plus an 15 year old step daughter and a 12 year old step son. When I had my first son I chose to have a career break so I could focus my attention on my children. I have been teaching children for twenty one years both in infant and primary schools and through tutoring. I have nine years experience of teaching in a school setting and I have twelve years worth of teaching exclusively through tutoring. I have taught across the primary range from Foundation Stage (Reception) to Year 6, and my last teaching post was in Foundation Stage - teaching across Nursery and Reception. Although my main teaching has been with younger children, I have trained to teach across KS1 and 2 and I am confident teaching older children and the majority of the children I tutor are Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
I am a friendly, approachable tutor who teaches in a variety of ways that would appeal to a range of learning styles. I have a structured, fun approach. Being a teacher means that I have access to a range of current resources and am very aware of the way children are currently being taught in school and can plan my tutoring sessions accordingly.
I tend to travel to you as it makes for a much calmer, less stressed environment for your child as they are based in their own territory and I am more than happy to travel. I do also teach from my property and via zoom.

Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have been successfully tutoring since 2006. The first 4 years of my tutoring ran alongside my teaching career, since having my first son I have expanded the number of days/nights I work and the number of pupils I have taken on and have capacity for. I tutor both additional needs children and mainstream children. My eldest son is on the Austistic Spectrum and my youngest has ADHD so working with children with additional needs is very close my heart. There are several children that I see during the day for either home school tutoring or flexischool tutoring and I also work evenings.
I work with both mainstream and SEN students, including those with ASD, ADHD, PDA, dyslexia, and dyscalculia. With personal experience of supporting children with additional needs, as both of my own children have SEND, Im deeply committed to helping every student reach their potential.
I also hold several self-studied diplomas:
Safeguarding in Education (2024)
Understanding Children and Young Peoples Mental Health (2024)
Autism Awareness Diploma (2024)
Special Educational Needs Advanced Diploma (2024)
Child protection in Education (2022)

We would very much recommend Sarah as a tutor. Our daughter, who isnt confident at maths, found Sarah very approachable. Sarah was able to give alternative techniques to try if there was an area of Maths she just couldnt understand, so her confidence grew alot. Sarah supported her and gave her extra help when needed throughout lasts years mocks and the GCSE assessments. Because of this our daughter got the best grade she could and we are very thankful to Sarah for her help!
