Information about Giuseppe
Currently I am a Lecturer at Sunderland Business School in London.
Previously I worked as a Lecturer and Post-doc at the University of Greenwich (UoG), analysing the Wider Impacts of Autonomous Vehicles on the transportation system and the impacts on the cities, and I like to work a lot with the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
With a Ph.D. in Urban Regeneration and Economic Development, I have excellent advocacy and interpersonal skills, as well as a track record contributing to collaborative projects. I also have research experience undertaken in different fields as well as an experience of writing concise and comprehensive reports/papers. I earned a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering in 2012. Recently I spent a period (Jan-Jul 2017) as a Research Fellow at the San Diego State University (California, USA), at the School of Public Affairs.
In brief, I have expertise in:
- GIS software and data analysis, I produced GIS maps, and analysed data for the MAPS-LED project and for the UoG.
- Urban Studies, I conducted research on Urban Planning Initiatives in the US (in Boston, MA and San Diego, CA).
- Structure planning, I worked as a Structural Engineer in an architectural firm for almost one year before the doctorate.
- Environmental Engineering and on-the-field tasks, I worked for an ecological services company.
My Ph.D. project, carried out under the direction of Professor Alan W. Dyer, Emeritus Professor at the Northeastern University of Boston (USA), was entitled Merging Economic Development and Clusters together with Sustainability. My research aimed at finding whether exists or not a relationship between Local Economic Development and Innovation, driven by Sustainability, inside urban areas. In this project was implemented a study on economic development and sustainability to plan more liveable cities, also with the use of data analysis and GIS.
I have been involved as an early stage researcher in the MAPS-LED project. MAPS-LED stands for Multidisciplinary Approach to Plan Smart Specialization Strategies for Local Economic Development, and is a Marie Curie RISE research project, funded by the European Unions program for Research and Innovation. I have been involved in this project from 2015 to 2017. I have conducted research during the above-mentioned project, and presented the findings of the research in several meetings over the years. Furthermore, in 2017 I wrote and presented an article called Green Economy as a driver for Urban Regeneration: insights from Greentown Labs, USA for an International Conference at the Salford University (UK).
I have also some practical on field experience since I worked in an architectural firm for almost one year. Before that, I worked as a safety and quality process assistant in a wastewater treatment plant for an ecological services company.
