Information about Sarah
I am a fully qualified primary school teacher with a wealth of classroom experience in both state and independent schools. Since 2008 I have specialised in one-to-one tutoring for the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools 11+ tests (Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, Non Verbal Reasoning). I also prepare children for 11+ Common Entrance tests and 11+ Scholarship tests. I offer sessions for children from Year 3 to Year 6. The younger the children are, the more low-key my approach; my Year 3 children are usually unaware that they are preparing for the 11+.
I teach from my own home in central Cheltenham, where I have a large and adaptable library of teaching resources (as well as easy, off-street parking for parents). My teaching style is engaging and child-centred, whilst being supportive and esteem-building. I use a variety of incentives and rewards to inspire and motivate.
Availability: I offer fixed weekly one-to-one lessons (of varying length depending on your child`s age) both after-school and on Saturdays. During the school holidays I offer a flexible timetable, on days and times to suit, as frequently as parents would like. Some parents choose to take a break during the school holidays. During half-terms I offer optional 11+ booster workshops, in small groups, for all my Year 5 children.
I dont ask for lessons to be paid for either in advance or in blocks, so parents never feel tied-in. And there are no fees for occasional missed lessons, as I know that this is an unavoidable consequence of family life.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I initially started tutoring alongside full-time classroom teaching, but I now specialise exclusively in one-to-one 11+ tutoring. I have been offering 11+ tutoring in Cheltenham since 2008. Prior to this I was a classroom teacher in London (Archdeacon Cambridge School, Garden House School and Newland House School). I have three young-adult children of my own; my daughter is a junior doctor and my sons are at the University of Oxford (PPE) and the University of Durham (engineering).
No two children are the same, so no two 11+ experiences will be the same; I will work hard to find the optimum route and pace for your child. Having carefully and sensitively identified your child`s individual strengths and weaknesses, I will equip your child with the knowledge, skills, strategies and self-confidence that they will need in order to fulfil their potential; frequently exceeding all expectations.
