Born and brought up in a picturesque small town in Portugal, Alvados, I’ve always recall myself as being an energetic person. Graduated as a Biomedical Engineer, science, technology, research, innovation and persistence are the keywords defining me as a professional. During the early years of my youth, I thought, at first, that my way into the professional world would be through medical school, aspiring to help people at the front line. Rapidly my mind was changed when biomedical engineering stepped into my life. Throughout the university years I discovered my passion for this scientific field as I was able to discover all the diverse ways in which a biomedical engineer can have a tremendous impact in improving the quality of medical care. As a person always in constant need for new challenges, I find in this profession a huge feeling of accomplishment.
At the present moment, I keep pursuing my dream of becoming a medical researcher as I started a PhD on medical physics at University College of London.

Experience: Being a person with a huge will of learning and acquire knowledge about new things, I’ve always tried to be integrated in different projects. As a way to be an active and interested member in the scientific community, I did several internships in this regard, ranging from attendance in several medical interventions (e.g., ERCP, colonoscopy, endoscopy, enteroscopy, PEG’s implantation and laparoscopy) to the integration in a research project for the monitorisation of tuberculosis and other infectious diseases in homeless people. Apart from the activities directly related with my subject of study, I was also integrated in different volunteer activities such as being a guide through the Instituto Superior Técnico museums during the open day or being part of a project directed to the elderly group where several juvenile events were conducted to prevent isolation and loneliness among this age group. In the last year, I also took part in a tutoring volunteer project to help first- and second-year university students during the covid-19 pandemic. In this project I helped the students with Algebra courses.
