My teaching is always student-centric, which means I structure lessons to maximise a student`s potential according to his or her age, skill level, interests and goals. My first goal is that lessons should be enjoyable and encourage a curiosity in and love for music. However, I would be remiss as a teacher if I didn`t push students to work hard and to explore new ideas. As a tutor, then, my mission is to encourage musical curiosity and excitement while also working systematically towards goals. After all, something is always more fun if you`re good at it!
Availability: I am quite flexible: Available most weekdays/evenings and weekends.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have 15 years of experience teaching students at all levels who have had a variety of goals. Several of my private students have gone on to major conservatoires such as Juilliard and the New England Conservatory, while the majority have continued to be involved in music while also engaging in other pursuits. I currently am the percussion tutor at St. John`s Beaumont prep school, where I teach tuned percussion and run a percussion ensemble for students age 5 - 13. In addition, I direct a Balkan music ensemble and teach several music courses at Royal Holloway University.
I have performed with major orchestras in the USA including the Baltimore Symphony, New World Symphony and Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. Since moving to London, I have dedicated myself to the music of the Balkans and Eastern Europe. My current project is the Balkan Music quintet Tatcho Drom [contact detail removed]
