Information about Thomas

I keep the quote, ‘Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn,’ at the forefront of my mind when planning lessons. Alongside this, I believe it is crucial for children to have a voice, and that they, as do others, need to be listened to. It is these two concepts that underpin my approach as a teacher.

I have been a teacher for six years working as a full time teacher in Year 2 and Year 3 for five years and as a supply teacher for this past year. As a supply teacher I have worked in all year from Nursery to Year 6. I have been exposed to many different schemes and methods of teaching and have become confident teaching in a multitude of styles. Some of these schemes include Maths Makes Sense, White Rose Maths, the International Primary Curriculum and Read Write inc.

In my teaching practice thus far I have been extremely successful at pushing up children’s attainment. I have had two highly successful year in Year 2 with the majority of my class of thirty passing the KS1 SATs.

Lessons ‘succeed’ for a number of reasons: I believe that child engagement is key when it comes to learning. Whilst planning I think of ways to ‘hook’ children’s attention, using subject choice and opportunities for ‘hands on’ learning.

I have worked in a variety of schools and with a whole range of abilities and ages groups. I am extremely adaptable and keen to get the absolute best out of my students.
