Information about Katy

I`m Katy and I`m a second year undergraduate reading History of Art at St John`s College, Oxford.
I have always been passionately academic despite the limitations that come with attending state schools. I achieved 10 A* grades at GSCE level and an A* in English Literature, and 2 A`s in my Sociology and French A-Levels at a sixth form in the most disadvantaged borough in the North West. Difficulty and disadvantage have never stopped me from working hard and remaining committed to achieving the very best, and I`d love to help you/your children achieve their very best too!

My approach to tutoring is to provide a good balance of being fun and approachable whilst also maintaining a confident and professional manner that students can value and respect.

Availability: I have flexible availability. In Oxford term time, I will be available most afternoons and evenings, and all weekend, depending on academic workload for each week

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: Much of my past work experience has involved working with children and young people. This is an area of work I am passionate about pursuing as a career either as a teacher or in the Arts Education sector. I would, therefore, value the opportunity to work with you/your children to further my experience in engaging and inspiring young people.

Organiser and Developer, LIFT Project, Oldham Sixth Form:

I was directly involved with the creation of this project which encourages primary and secondary age school pupils to pursue modern languages education. In this role I:
Led workshops for groups of 60 high school students,

Organised and delivered a six week Beginners’ French Club for children aged 6-8 at Holy Cross Primary School,

(Student feedback described me as an approachable, fun and energetic person and that parent and teacher feedback commended my teaching and stated that they had seen a marked improvement in the children’s French language ability and an increased enthusiasm to continue the subject at high school)

The LIFT project was awarded the British Academy`s National Language Award in 2013,

I have since returned back to Oldham Sixth Form after graduating to teach classes to primary school children in celebration of European Languages Day,

Volunteer Object Handler, Manchester Museum:

I have undertaken a voluntary position as an object handler on Sundays. This role developed my skills in educating engaging children in a fun and engaging way.
This role required a Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Arts Education Team Volunteer, Whitworth Art Gallery:

I undertook work experience at this gallery assisting with a number of community based workshops which included mother and toddler sessions, school group sessions, and disabled children`s sessions. I loved working with all of these groups and helping them to learn about the gallery`s collections through innovative activities.
