Information about Denise
Hi everyone. My name is Denise and I am an experience primary school teacher who has recently moved from London to Norfolk. I am passionate about helping children on their learning journey and still enjoy the job after all of these years. As a mother to two children myself, I understand the challenges of helping your own children learn.
Please read below for my experience in teaching and tutoring. Please note, I am currently only offering online tutoring.
Availability: After school or evenings on Thursday and Friday.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I am a primary school teacher with 24 years of teaching experience in London. I have experience of teaching children across early years, key stages 1 and 2. As well as teaching, I have spent many years as a year leader and before my move to Norfolk in November, I was upper key stage 2 phase leader. A large part of that role was co-ordinating and preparing children in year 6 for SATS and secondary school.
In addition in my last school, I was the whole school writing and moderation co-ordinator. This role required me to have an overview of the English curriculum, support with planning, team teach with other teachers and ensure the high quality teaching of English across the school. I am confident with the grammar requirements of key stage 2 and pride myself in inspiring children to write. As such, I have recently written a 4000 word action research project on using experiential learning to create greater depth writers. In other words- becoming a good writing while having fun! Despite having a strong interest in English, I also enjoy teaching maths. Having taught in year 6 for over 10 years, I have a secure understanding of the maths requirements and have developed a range of useful and successful techniques to aid children to remember and understand mathematical concepts.
Alongside my teaching, co-ordinator and leadership role. I am also an Advanced Skill Teacher; a qualification gained in 2009 after being externally assessed as being an outstanding practitioner. In this role I worked across schools in the local area to support and train teachers with teaching the English curriculum.
Outside of the classroom, I am also a qualified TEFL/ESOL teacher of adults and young people. This qualification I passed in 2014 with a distinction.
Previously, I ran my own phonics and numeracy preschool group, helping young children kick start their learning and I have a secure understanding of the early years phonic requirements including ELS (essential letters and sounds).
Regarding tutoring, I have been a tutor at various points in my career and have taught children across the age ranges. I always begin my tutoring role by having a conversation with parents about the requirements of the role and to gain an understanding of each child and to create a plan to support them in their journey.
I have all relevant teaching documentation as well as a current CRB check.
DBS Check: Yes

Denise is very patient as my son loses concentration very easily, she uses good technique to change his focus back to his work. My son is starting to put words together using phonics which is very good. I am happy with her teaching and recommend her. She is always on time and is flexible if needed.
