Information about Shazia

I qualified as a pharmacist twenty-one years ago in 2002 following my graduation at Aston University in Birmingham where I got my Masters degree. I worked in several roles as a pharmacist including as a community pharmacist and following completion of my Diploma in clinical pharmacy in 2011 at De Montfort University, I worked as a pharmacist in G.P. surgeries seeing patients and supporting them with their medicines. During my time in these roles, I had the honour of training pharmacy staff as well as pharmacy students and graduates.
I then took a detour in 2016 and due to my growing interest in holistic health, I returned to college to retrain in Naturopathic Nutrition, completing my Diploma in 2019. I thoroughly enjoyed my learning and now my practice as it is all science based and I am always learning more.
It was also during this time that I discovered tutoring. It had been suggested to me by friends and family and I liked the idea of sharing my passion of all things science. I had always loved science classes, having studied it in my younger days, at GCSE level and then at Advanced level. It was my passion that helped me connect to a new audience when I started teaching at local tuition centres helping children between the ages of 5 to 13 years of age to understand science related topics. It was a pleasure to see students understand the material given whilst allowing me the opportunity to learn new skills and develop myself further.
I continued to teach Science but moved into a private tutor role teaching KS3 and KS4 Sciences including Biology, Chemistry and Physics. My tutoring style grew to become fun and interactive. I loved the challenge of supporting students with different learning styles understand the concepts in a way that was unique to them. I used various learning techniques including analogies, relating the topic to everyday life and would regularly assess their learning utilising mini tests, previous lesson revision and questions from past exam papers. I would also set homework and provide resources to expand learning of the topic covered. All students were invited to offer feedback on the lesson and I also engaged with parents updating them on progress.
I would love to continue my journey as a tutor for Biology and Chemistry up to GCSE level as these topics are my favourite and I still use the learning I gain in these areas to this day! I find the role highly rewarding and fulfilling. It is an amazing and indescribable experience to see my student achieve and exceed their goals in getting to the next stage of their education.
When I am not teaching or working on my clinics, I enjoy gardening, green outdoor spaces and nature. I will sew, get involved with charities, undertake the odd DIY project around the house and really enjoy listening to and attending lectures. My nutrition studies have got me into healthy cooking and keep fit and more reading. I thoroughly enjoy topics on personal development and seek out growth opportunities.

Experience: I have worked for tuition centres tutoring small groups of students before moving into a private tutoring role later on in my experience where I was teaching KS4 Sciences covering material up to and inclusive of higher level GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I have found it to be very enjoyable and fulfilling and I would love to continue to support Science education whilst working around my nutrition business.

I found the work to be great fun despite the individual challenges and hurdles I faced. Every student was different and required personalised support. I loved the engagement and challenge of helping my student understand the material, using the incredible resources available, real life examples and analogies.

I worked in tuition for about 5 years stopping during Covid but I would like to resume so I may build on my skills further.
