Information about Laura
I am a Cambridge graduate and qualified secondary school Music teacher with a strong academic and practical background. I have recent experience as a Head of Department, private tutor and instrumental teacher. I am passionate about music education and seek to foster confidence and curiosity in my students, tailoring my teaching to different learning styles.
My BA in Music from Cambridge gave me a solid classical grounding in harmony and counterpoint, musicology, music history, music analysis, and composition. This prepared me amply for teaching GCSE and A Level students beyond the curriculum. A couple of years later, I completed an interdisciplinary Master`s in Theology, Imagination and the Arts at the University of St Andrews, which enabled me to pursue my enjoyment of academia to the next level. My personal specialisms include Romantic opera and Italian Renaissance sacred music, and I love exploring connections between the arts and the cultures in which they evolved. I then returned to Cambridge for my PGCE during which time I taught in a large, multicultural inner city school and a smaller village college.
In addition to Music, I am able to teach Music Theory, French (I am bilingual, having grown up in Brussels), and English as a foreign language, for which I hold a CELTA qualification.
I am enthusiastic, friendly and patient, and am dedicated to delivering high quality lessons that meet the specific needs of my students. In our taster lesson, I will work with you to determine your areas of improvement and suggest different strategies we can employ to address them in fun and creative ways.
