Hannah

I graduated from Oxford University in 2012 with a degree in Classics. Since graduating I have worked as a Learning Facilitator for young adults with autism and other special educational needs and as an Educational Facilitator for the Oxford Playhouse. I am currently studying circus and physical theatre at Circomedia in Bristol. I have a real passion for literature and storytelling and have worked extensively in dance and theatre as well as academia. Much of my experience as a teacher comes from directing youth theatre companies, which has given me a creative, enthusiastic, supportive and open-minded approach to teaching. What I enjoy most about sharing my knowledge and experience is enabling those I`m teaching to challenge themselves and reach beyond their expectations, to be able to take pride in and feel inspired by their work.

I believe in building a trusting relationship between myself and my tutees in order to encourage open discussion and space to explore ideas whilst working together to achieve high standards of work. As I mentioned above, it is really important to me that my students feel supported and encouraged in their learning. I aim to provide this positive foundation to tutorials and to work always with an appreciation of each individual`s potential and their capacity for learning.

Experience: My teaching experience lies in three separate spheres, all of which have given me valuable experience in encouraging, informing and developing my tutees in ways that suit them as individuals. I have found that `teaching` can happen in all manner of scenarios and I believe the same principles apply to academic study as they do to practical and vocational skills - practice, interest, valuing what is being learnt and feeling supported and encouraged to learn makes studying successful. In each of the different ways that I have worked as a teacher I have promoted these things in my learners.

Tutoring and childminding. Through a number of jobs as a childminder I have gained experience working with children aged 3-11, supporting and mentoring them with their school work, numeracy and literacy, life skills and sports. I have worked as a private tutor for individuals with a range of abilities and interests, working toward a variety of qualifications.

Youth theatre. I have worked as director and choreographer with a number of youth theatre companies and with school groups teaching dance, drama, creative writing and textual analysis of scri pts.

Employment with MacIntyre No Limits as a Community Learning Facilitator supporting teenagers and young adults with special educational needs. This work involved careful planning of educational sessions specifically tailored to the individual needs of each student and regularly devising new, creative approaches to teaching literacy, numeracy and life skills.
