Experience: I am a qualified teacher of English with over 19 years experience, including as a Head of Department, Whole School Literacy Manager and Key Stage Three Coordinator. In addition, I have five years experience as an 11+ examination marker, assessing papers for schools including North London Collegiate.
After gaining my degree in English Literature and then a PGCE in Secondary English from the University of London Institute of Education, I obtained Qualified Teacher Status and began my teaching career.
My teaching has been consistently been graded outstanding in lesson observations, with pupils making rapid and measurable progress.
A key strength is my diversity of teaching experience: I have taught around 2000 students between the ages of 8 to 18 and have expertise in working with pupils of all levels of ability. I have prepared pupils for 11+, 13+, GCSE, A-level and International Baccalaureate qualifications, as well as Oxbridge entry.
I have taught at very challenging schools - such as one featured on the TV show Tough Young Teachers - as well as highly academic schools. I taught at Dulwich College Preparatory School for three years, where I prepared pupils for entrance examinations for competitive schools such as Eton, Harrow and Westminster. I also have five years experience teaching at Northwood College for Girls.
To date, I have a 100% success rate at getting students into their first choice of school. I also have a proven track record of helping virtually all students achieve or exceed their ambitious target grades for GCSE and A-level.
I have had extensive training in supporting students with special educational needs, including autism and dyslexia. The latter training was provided by the British Dyslexia Association. I am able to tailor approaches and resources to suit the individual needs of every pupil.
I am DBS checked and have a clear record.
I would be happy to discuss your childs needs in more detail. Please do contact me for an informal chat.
Please note: I am a subject specialist in English and I do not teach Maths.
