Experience: am currently completing a PhD on Shakespeare and femininity in London (Roehampton University), funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council.

Last year, I completed an English PGCE at the University of Cambridge (the no.1 teacher training provider in the UK), receiving prizes for outstanding classroom research at A Level. I have taught at multiple schools across Cambridgeshire, both co-educational and single sex. I have taught across the Key Stages 3-5, delivering the GCSE and A Level curriculum. I have particularly strengths in Shakespeare, having completed my Cambridge Masters on Renaissance Literature, and completing by PhD in this area.

I have successfully tutored students in south west London in GCSE and A Level English (AQA and Edexcel exam boards).

I have worked at Reach Academy in Feltham as a Secondary Tutor Fellow, working in partnership with teachers to deliver high quality learning experiences to pupils inside and outside the classroom in Years 7-11. This involved assisting with core subjects, especially English and Maths. I also worked with pupils both 1:1 and in small groups to support their progress, which included homework support, literacy interventions, and Book Clubs. The role also involved working with pupils with Special Educational Needs, tutoring them individually and within a classroom setting.

I have spent a significant amount of years as an assistant to a visually impaired English Literature and Language teacher at Esher College, a non-selective open-access sixth form college. This developed my understanding of the content and structure of the Key Stage 5 English curriculum. I helped to plan her lessons in advance to minimise any technical difficulties she may have encountered in the classroom. Using my own knowledge of the subject, I helped to mark students’ essays and coursework on fiction and drama ranging from Shakespeare’s ‘King Lear’ to Sebastian Faulks’ ‘Birdsong’ against the AQA and OCR marking schemes.

I have previously been employed as a Nursery Assistant and Childminder`s assistant in South West London, educating and caring for young children.

During my time in sixth form, I founded and led a book group for Years 7 and 8 called ‘Bookworms’. This was attended by a small group of eight students. I pro-actively picked texts such as Shakespeare’s ‘The Comedy of Errors’ which would challenge the pupils. It was a supportive environment, and resulted in a noticeable growth in students’ confidence as they took on larger sections of various texts to read independently outside of the classroom.
