Information about Corinne

My name is Corinne and I am an experienced English teacher and tutor.

I am a friendly, calm and fun tutor and I want to help all students feel more confident in any way possible in English, whether it be at KS2, KS3 or preparing you for your GCSE English exams. We can work together to make you more confident and motivated in English in order for you to achieve your goals. I have been working as a one-to-one tutor for some time now, teaching English and maths at KS2 and KS3, English GCSE and English and Maths Functional Skills. As it is one-to-one tutoring, I am able to create fun and engaging lessons and resources, tailored personally to each student. This has allowed me to become much more creative and flexible to my student`s needs.

I studied for my PGCE in Secondary English at Nottingham Trent University after completing my English and French degree, obtaining a 2:1 BA (Hons). Once qualified, I worked full-time in the same school teaching English across KS3, KS4 and KS5. I now work as a tutor, a supply teacher and an assistant examiner.

English GCSE

I am most familiar with the AQA GCSE exams, for both English Literature and Language. Texts covered for the new GCSE English Literature exam: Great Expectations, An Inspector Calls, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Sign of Four, A Christmas Carol, Martyn Pig, both poetry anthologies, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth.

I am happy to be flexible with the contents of each lesson. We can discuss and decide this on a lesson to lesson basis, but they could include: fiction and/or non-fiction extract work (for the language exams), literature revision, essay planning and writing, poetry analysis, literacy (SPAG), writing skills, timed exam style questions, help with the completion of homework.

Availability: My hours are varied so I am quite flexible as to when your tutoring can be. I am happy to work evenings Monday to Thursday.

Willing to travel: 20 miles

Experience: My main specialism is English and I have experience of teaching English across KS2, KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have 5 years worth of experience teaching in schools and during that time, I mainly taught KS4, in the classroom and in after school intervention, but thoroughly enjoyed all of my teaching. I have extensive experience of teaching the new AQA English Literature and Language exams, and want to help you to understand the new 1-9 system, and achieve your own target (if not beyond). I have collected many resources related to these exams and have developed strategies in order for you to hit the assessment objectives for each question.

I am also an assistant examiner which means that I have two years of experience marking AQA English GCSE Literature exams. This means that I am very familiar with the mark schemes for the exams and how to enable you to achieve maximum marks in each question of the exams. This year, I have also marked the AQA Language exam paper 2 which means that I am very familiar with that mark scheme as well.

Since becoming a tutor, I have taught maths (mainly KS2, KS3, entry level and functional skills) and have also taught some French as I can speak French to a high standard. I have also taught English at entry level and functional skills. I would be happy to teach KS2 and KS3 maths and KS2, KS3 and KS4 French.
