VERY EXPERIENCED ENGLISH LANGUAGE & LITERATURE TUTOR AVAILABLE FYLDE COAST AREA

I am an English Literature graduate with more than 20 years` experience of tutoring children and young people. I am a warm and engaging tutor, with a good understanding of a student`s particular, individual needs.

My tuition experience includes the following:

GCSE & A LEVEL preparation, English and English Literature - most of my students excelled expectations and many were inspired to continue their study of English beyond GCSE;

11+ and 13+ EXAMS - having worked down in London for 25 years, much of my work involved supporting children through the intensely competitive process for grammar and independent school admission at 11/13+ - my students gained places at prestigious North/West London schools, such as South Hampstead, Mill Hill County High, Tiffin, Islamia, John Lyon, City of London Boys;

SATs - supporting children prepare for SATs exams, covering reading skills, mathematics, spelling rules, grammar and punctuation, as well as comprehension skills;

WRITING SKILLS - gathering ideas, using the senses to help make writing descri ptive, ordering information, use of paragraphs, characterization, reports and newspaper articles, etc;

SHAKESPEARE/ POETRY - helping students get over their aversion to Shakespeare/poetry is something that gives me a lot of joy!

VERBAL & NON-VERBAL REASONING - for 11+;

SPECIAL NEEDS – I trained as a counsellor and managed local authority services for vulnerable children and young people and have extensive experience of working with students with special/additional needs, e.g. Autism, ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, as well as depression & anxiety.

I have a warm, engaging manner and love helping my students develop their reading and language techniques, their thinking and analytical skills and, most of all, their self-confidence.

DBS checked. References available on request. I have a CELTA teaching qualification and am a qualified counsellor and mindfulness teacher.

Primary - English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Many children were preparing for the very competitive entrance exams for grammar schools and independent schools. Children I tutored gained places in a range of excellent high schools, including South Hampstead High School, Mill Hill County High School, St Pauls Boys (three scholarship places), John Lyons School, Tiffin, Notting Hill and Ealing High School, Islamia School and St Micheal`s in Barnet.
Secondary: pre-GCSE English language and literature; GCSE and A Level English language and literature. I support student with all aspects of their study and many have gone on to achieve top grades.
Additional Needs: I have a lot of experience of working with children and young people with additional needs, such as ADD, ADHD, Autism, depression and other emotional behaviour disorders.

I have also managed local authority teams, supporting vulnerable children and young people. I have also been an independent assessor of provision for children and young people.
