Information about Christopher

I am an experienced lecturer of Business, having delivered on a range of BTEC qualifications at Level 2 & 3 as well as working with students at GCSE, A-level and University. Prior to teaching I was involved in the start-up of numerous businesses and it is through this experience I am able to inspire and encourage the next generation of young entrepreneurs. Over the years I have won numerous awards in recognition of my innovative approach to teaching and learning, including Award for Best Teacher in 2016 & 2018, as well as the Award for Academic Achievement in 2017. Still lecturing in my role at a busy college, I have helped to drastically increase pass rates and improve overall grades which has led to record numbers of students securing their place at University.

Students I work with feel confident to ask questions on areas they feel they need to improve on. Through methods of initial assessment, I can gauge each individual`s areas for improvements and focus on building key skills to help them achieve the highest grades. Many of my learners come to me with concerns about academic writing - this is were most students see the greatest improvements! I have helped hundreds over the years with specific areas such as;

How to plan your written work?
How to use Harvard Referencing?
How to explain, analyse, compare and evaluate?
How to achieve the highest grades?

Other popular services I provide are proofreading and marking of written work and exams. Through detailed feedback I am able to help students to improve first drafts of assignments right the way through to final submission. This is available to students at GCSE all the way up to those studying at University for their degree.

I would class myself as a bit of an expert when it comes to BTEC qualifications, having been involved in delivering at all levels and marking assignments for many years. BTEC gives students the opportunity to really aim for the highest grades, with opportunities to resubmit work that fall below Distinction standard. Working with individuals and small groups of learners, I work closely with them to ensure that the work meets all criteria - first time around! This reduces stress and frees up time for them to revise for exams, etc. I regularly attend Pearson events to make sure I am up to date with the latest developments and pass this onto colleagues and students

Availability: Most evenings and weekends when required. Tuition through Skype is a popular method but I am able to travel within 5 miles of my home. Group sessions are available at my home or if numbers allow, I often arrange a suitable venue to accommodate larger numbers.

Experience: My background within industry comes from self employment and the running of numerous businesses prior to embarking on a career in teaching. Since entering education I have achieved excellent results working with learners on Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications including BTEC and A-level. I have helped students to develop key skills that prepare them for University, especially assignment writing and the planning of reports and dissertations. I have also spent some time teaching within Higher Education and working with students undertaking a degree in Business and Management. Finally, I have successfully supported students to achieve places at some of the top universities in the UK, including helping them to achieve the required grades necessary and also the development of their UCAS profile and personal statement.

In my current role as a lecturer I am used to presenting to audiences of over 50 students at a time, yet I ensure that I am able to spend time with individuals on a one-to-one basis to monitor their progress and provide support if necessary.
