Information about Amy
I have been teaching science for 8 years, qualifying in 2012 through the Teach First Leadership Development Programme. Exam preparation and exam results are my specialty. Throughout my teaching career I have been KS3 Science Coordinator, Deputy Head of Science, Head of Year 8, Head of Year 10 and now I am a Lead Practitioner. As a result I have great experience in the academic and pastoral side of education and so I know what students need to do to get the best grades.
Outside of school I am a keen sportswoman, being part of a netball team and running team. I have an interest in running, having run numerous half marathons and the Paris marathon.
Availability: I am available after school from 5pm onwards for 60 minute- 90 minute sessions. This would be on Mondays- Thursday evenings. I am also available during the school holidays.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have a strong and successful record of teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 and have had experience of teaching a range of exam boards including: AQA, edexcel (GCSE and IGCSE) and OCR.
I have been a private tutor for 4 years and have successfully tutored students for their biology, chemistry or physics GCSE, as well as biology A Level exams. I have a great understanding of what students need to do in order to achieve their target grade and above. Additionally, I have worked with students who have specific learning needs, or students who need a tailored programme to help increase engagement with their learning and with science.
I run KS3 interventions at my school to ensure all KS3 students make appropriate progress in order to be ready for their GCSEs, and run additional intervention for KS4 students who may need additional support. Therefore, I have a deep understanding of the skills students need in order to achieve the top marks in the new science specification, and I know what to do when students lack these skills.
I helped write schemes of work and assessments my science department uses for the new GCSE specification, and as a result have good knowledge of what a student needs to do to achieve a grade 5 or a grade 9. This is invaluable as there is a lot of confusion surrounding the required practicals and the more difficult application questions.
