Information about Tom
Hi, I`m a PhD student at Newcastle University and I tutor a range of subjects including GCSE/A Level: English Language, Literature, Film Studies, History and Geography.
I lead a seminar at Newcastle University every week during term time and I have been tutoring many GCSE and A-Level students in the past few years.
I can help with exam preparation and revision, homework assistance, reviewing classwork and coursework as well as general tutoring of curriculum and critical thinking and research/study skills.
I also teach IGCSE and ESL students abroad as well as preparing students for the humanities portions of exams such as GAMSAT.
I live in North Shields. I have an MA in Modern History from Durham University and a First Class Bachelor`s degree from the University of Warwick and an enhanced DBS. I also have Newcastle University`s teaching in higher education qualification and a TEFL certificate.
Availability: Flexible schedule - available also weekends and evenings.
Also available for online lessons (Skype, Zoom and Google Hangouts).
All online classes are discounted.
Willing to travel: 50 miles
Experience: I bring extensive academic expertise and detailed knowledge of the curriculum and mark schemes to all my lessons and I have seen significant improvements in subject knowledge, essay-writing and critical thinking skills of my GCSE/A-Level students in the past few years.
I previously taught English as Second Language to Spanish teenagers studying in Newcastle on a monthly basis. And before this I worked in Bologna, Italy as an English teacher for several years, teaching adults and children of all ages and levels. I taught at many multinational corporations as well as giving group and individual classes at my Language Institute.
I especially enjoyed going into schools (primary, middle and high), meeting the children there and providing a fun but academically challenging course.
One thing I learnt on the job is that every student has different needs and so a great teacher must approach every one on a case-by-case basis and try and build the best relationship and teaching strategy possible. Creating working relationships with parents is also crucial to the success of any teacher and I have always flourished in this role.

Very good hands on tutor who emphasised to my son how to really understand what particular questions were looking for rather than parrot fashion replies, would certainly recommend him

My daughter only had Tom for a very short time due to her families personal circumstances but she found him extremely helpful. Would highly recommend.
