Information about Claire
My name is Claire and I`m a qualified primary school teacher, having taught primary aged children across the UK for 22 years. I am now ready and available to provide high-quality tutoring to your child. I find it exciting and personally rewarding to see children gain new skills and overcome areas which they have found challenging in the past. I look forward to working with your child as their tutor.
I am able to provide sessions of 45 to 60 minutes, to best suit your childs needs. There are no costs for travel (up to 15 miles), or costs for resources.
I am married with one child, one cat and about 50 tropical fishes. In my spare time I enjoy reading, sewing, crochet and travelling I love going on adventures!
I have a full DBS (CRB) enhanced certificate and references.
Availability: Weekday evenings
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I have taught in schools across the UK for 22 years with the last 17 years being spent in schools on Teesside. I have taught across the full age-range of KS2, and in KS1 I have taught Year 2. My most recent teaching post was in a Stockton primary school providing SEN interventions and Year 5/6 interventions in all subjects including reading, writing, spelling, grammar and mathematics. I have kept up-to-date with all the recent changes to the primary curriculum and its assessment. For the past two years, I have been a KS2 Grammar and Spelling SATs marker and have been graded as an Expert Examiner as a result of the accuracy of my marking.
I have been part-time tutoring for the last four years, mainly in English and mathematics, supporting children in booster activities to help them reach their targets, and also in the teaching of gifted and talented children resulting in a child far exceeding their expected targets.
Tutoring Approach
This will start with an informal telephone conversation to collect information about your child`s strengths, confidence and areas to develop, along with your own needs and expectations. I will also seek information from reports and assessments so that I can prepare an individual plan with targets to aim for along the way.
I plan varied, interactive sessions using mental activities, games, written tasks, SATs style questions, educational apps, websites
whichever is the best tool for learning available. I can also provide further activities and websites to practise throughout the week between sessions.
