Information about Zoë
Hi, I`m Zoë, an undergraduate studying Natural Sciences at the University of Bath. I have grown up in Guildford and attended Guildford High School, where I took A levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths and achieved A*A*A, as well as an A grade in English Literature at AS level. I have 12 A* grades for GCSE, including latin, drama, history and physics. I can engage with all age groups, am friendly and enthusiastic and willing to think creatively about different approaches to learning.
The benefit of my course at university is that I am able to pick from a wide range of science modules - it is more or less like continuing to do both chemistry and biology at degree level. My main academic interests (having just finished first year) are in biochemistry and so I would be very willing to provide students with an insight into the subject as they proceed past their A levels. With regards to UCAS preparation, my personal statement got me into an interview at Oxford and I have since helped students with their own personal statements. I can therefore provide students with direction and feedback with their UCAS applications.
I recognise the importance of tailoring a tutoring experience to each individual student, so please do not hesitate to get in touch regarding any specific problem areas. With regards to A level lessons (and some GCSE), I can happily bring along some extra questions or resources if you would like. Again, please just get in touch so that I can arrange this for you.
Availability: I have flexible hours available from June 2020 until September 2020.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I have taught English as a foreign language to students aged 8 to 17 years old whilst abroad in Laos. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience as it allowed me to develop my communication skills and improve my ability to create innovative lesson plans and engage with children of all ages.
During the holidays, I helped students in lower years at school with aspects of the curriculum they were finding challenging. I have also provided one-on-one mentoring to a student with physical disability needs which helped me to learn how to effectively adapt to each individual student`s particular requirements. Guildford High held an annual `Science Week` in which pupils in all year groups got the opportunity to engage with scientific topics that went beyond the scope of the curriculum in a fun and interactive manner. I was able to help out during the week, meaning that I walked them through the practical experiments that the younger girls were taking part in and got them to consider the topic being introduced in a more logical, analytical manner.
My experience as House Captain and Senior Prefect whilst at school allowed me to have regular contact with students of all ages and so I learnt how best to engage effectively with children of all ages.
