Louisa

I tutor maths and sciences at GCSE and KS3 and I have experience tutoring all levels of ability. I have a high success rate of pupils achieving grades 7 to 9 and of pupils improving beyond their expected levels due to the inspiration and encouragement which builds their confidence in learning. I also offer tutoring in adult basic numeracy skills, re-sit GCSE maths, maths for A level sciences and maths for Open University level 1 maths and science courses. I`m also able to provide tutoring to bridge the gap between GCSE and A level sciences and maths.

Being patient and friendly, as well as committed to my students` success, I aim to build confidence and enjoyment in the subjects I teach, to prepare students for examinations, as well as building essential skills for the future. I have a positive approach and encourage pupils to work hard to achieve their best.

I focus on each pupil’s individual needs and involve pupils’ in giving feedback on what works best for them when planning lessons. I have extensive experience and success tutoring pupils with autism, ADHD and other disabilities and through my patience, encouragement and understanding, I know how to help each pupil to achieve their best. I break learning down into easier to manage steps, checking understanding at each stage and I encourage them to feel pride at their successes which motivates learning.

Experience: Presently, I run my own tutoring business in Bolton. I have a degree in physics and also studied university modules in mathematics and natural sciences (biology, chemistry, astronomy, geology). My interests include medical physics and neuroscience: As part of my physics degree, I completed theoretical research on measurement of electrical currents in the brain. In addition, I have completed a Postgraduate Diploma in a scientific field.

I have experience tutoring the most able students, as well as those with additional needs and in particular, autism and ADHD. My exam pass rate is high with most students achieving grades B to A*. 100% of my first cohort of pupils taking the new 9-1 maths achieved grade 6 or above, with one achieving a grade 9.

Presently, I have GCSE and A level students who attend Bolton School, Canon Slade, Westholme, Turton, Rivington and Blackrod, Bolton College and Bury College, as well as adult maths learners preparing for entry to nursing and teaching. I also tutor students studying for degrees, including Open University.
