Information about Sam

I am a 24-year-old Economics BSc graduate from the University of Leeds, working for the government as a macroeconomist and living in St John’s Hill in London.

I have been lucky enough to have some amazing teachers growing up who have inspired me to attain high grades and to pursue a career in economics, which I love. My aim is to pay this inspiration forward to my students.

I aim to make my lessons as engaging as possible whilst ensuring that the subject area is comprehensively covered. Lessons will be targeted towards exams and will be set out in a logical order that makes it easy for my students to follow.

I have had experience with teaching both in my job and in previous volunteering roles. I have a digital drawing pad which makes online, virtual lessons easy and interactive.

Availability: I am available on weeknights after school to take on new students, virtually or in person.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: Employment:
For 2 years I have worked as an economist in the civil service, where my empirical and qualitative economic analysis has been integral to key government policy evaluation, including on Investment Zones and Permanent Full Expensing. I also have a role in Quality Assuring key data insights included in the Spring Budget and the Autumn Statement publications.

My most recent posting is in the renowned Macroeconomics Assessment team in the Economics Group at HM Treasury, which is the government`s core function for understanding macroeconomic trends as well as macroeconomic modelling and forecasting.

In this role at HM Treasury, I have line-managed two apprentices for the last year. The most recent of which was a first-year apprentice, who needed significant teaching on how to perform their role in the team but also on the subject of economics and maths itself, which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Education:
I went to a great state school in Surrey growing up where I attained strong grades at GCSE, and A level.

A level grades are listed below:
A* - Politics
A - Maths
A - Geography
B - Physics

Following my schooling, I took an Economics BSc at the University of Leeds, where I obtained first-class honours. This required extensive knowledge of economics and maths.

Volunteering:
I have previously volunteered for a year at my local rugby club. Here, I led classes for the U16 youth team. This involved planning sessions, teaching large groups of 16-year-olds, and reviewing the team’s and individual player`s success, all to improve performance - just like tutoring!
