Information about Ruth

I have always had a fondness for teaching and teachers from a very young age, especially being someone who has experienced amazing quality teaching as an EAL pupil in primary school. Based on my personal primary school experiences (as a child, especially in year 5 and 6) with my teachers, I can confidently give voice to the immense impact they had on my learning, progress and academic development. They truly aided and supported me into becoming a resilient and aspiring pupil. In the last few years, teaching has truly paved way for me to gain a wide range of real classroom experiences, together with exploring varied pedagogies in primary education. This has enabled me to gain and improve my personal subject knowledge, which has now promoted a variety of fundamental skills that has led me to develop into a well-grounded and credible educator.

Experience: I have been able to engage in varies purposeful teaching, which has effectively supported me in my practice as a teacher. I have gained a broader understanding of SEND children and support; effectual lesson planning; how to deliver lessons, monitor and evaluate learning outcomes including differentiation; phonics and its importance in the development of language and writing; focused mathematics on reasoning and problem solving throughout Key Stage 2. I have been able to gain contrasting experiences, due to having diverse children in my classes with different learning abilities and needs, which has given me the opportunity to gain experiences and outlooks on teaching and pupils.

Thus far, I have been able to teach year 4 to 6 in the last four academic years, teaching in all areas of the curriculum and ensuring all children’s cognitive needs are met appropriately. As a whole, through consist teaching and continuous self-reflection, I have adapted my teaching in order for me to understand how I want to manage my own classroom and what aspects are important for me to always be a successful, effective and intentional teacher. I have done a share amount of team teaching throughout my teaching years, in order to improve my practice and to learn directly alongside well-experienced teachers to better my practice as a teacher. I have come to understand the use of assessment when teaching and the impact it has on further developing children learning appropriately according to their individual needs.

As a teacher, I have been able to positively acquire my own teacher status within a classroom environment in behaviour management alongside developing my own style of teaching. So far, I have learnt a lot about balancing the many responsibilities of being a successful and effective teacher, which includes building effective and positive relationships with children as well as staff members across the school, understanding each individual child within my classroom, maintaining effective and appropriate behaviour management systems and monitoring children’s progression to but also beyond the expected level. Likewise, I have been able to appreciate the importance of letting children explore their creativity abilities when learning in Art and D&T alongside MFL because I have seen how this paves way for children to observe higher-order cognitive skills. I have to learnt the importance of parental involvement for children to thrive and progress in their learning. I have experienced parent’s evenings both physically and virtually in my years of teaching, which has given me an insight on how substantial it is to involve parents in their children learning and development, in order to liaise with them to support all children in every area of learning accordingly.
